JOB SUMMARY:   The Material Application Engineer is responsible for: plant technical service of metals, coatings, and sealants used in the manufacture of food containers, for managing material related corporate projects, for assisting in the resolution of critical quality defects, and for acting as the liaison between Silgan and the material suppliers   II.  QUALIFICATIONS:   ¨ Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Physics, Math, or Material-Engineering ¨ One to three years experience in organic-coatings, resins, or industrial chemicals ¨ Proficient in the use of Microsoft business related software, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint     III. COMPLIES WITH SILGAN’S SAFETY POLICY -  Knows, applies, and follows established safety standards and procedures -  Is proactive and takes appropriate actions to develop and maintain a safe work environment -  Attends company safety meetings on a regular basis   IV.  PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:   ¨ Is responsible for technical support of materials and material processes at 5 to 7 manufacturing locations ¨ Is responsible for assisting with the resolution of plant production problems that result in critical container defects and level one customer complaints ¨ Is responsible for the coordination and successful completion of strategic material development projects assigned by management ¨ Is responsible for preparing and evaluating test materials and containers ¨ Is responsible for tracking supplier issues, trials, and projects, and for coordinating technical meetings between the suppliers and Silgan   Job Requirements: V. SPECIAL CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:   ¨ Material Application Engineers will have to visit the various manufacturing facilities across the United States and will be required to travel approximately 50% of the time. ¨ Material Application Engineers frequently work in plant environments where they may be subjected to organic vapors generated in the various manufacturing processes    Job Code : 278 Division/Department : Operations Travel Required : 40-50%
