Position Overview

 

The Logistics Manager will proactively plan, organize and manage the operation of railcar fleet to achieve operational excellence, superior customer service and maximize cost effectiveness.

 

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

·         Responsible for price and service level negotiations of rail transportation.

·         Manage railcar fleet which is used as both transport and storage to assure that equipment is available as needed, minimize rail siding storage and demurrage charges, and optimize fleet size on an ongoing basis.

·         Develop and maintain logistic strategies regarding vendor selection and approval, negotiation of contracts and most competitive pricing, leveraging and total logistics volume.

·         Establish and maintain excellent relationships with carriers to ensure competitive cost and high service levels.  This includes strategic alliances and partnerships.

·         Establish and maintain excellent relationships with customer receiving functions.

·         Coordinate with Supply Chain (Production Scheduling, Shipping, Warehouse/Inventory Management, and Customer Service) to accomplish 100% on time shipment objectives.

·         Track railcars in transit.

·         Coordinate import and export transport.

·         Schedule and oversee railcar maintenance

·         Ensure accurate invoicing from carriers and appropriate payment by Accounting.

·         Track, analyze and allocate distribution costs.

 

Candidate Qualifications and Experience:

 

·         This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

·         10+ years in logistics and transportation; broad logistics background with motor freight, rail, barge and ocean freight is preferred.

·         Expert knowledge of railroad industry and practices

·         Broad knowledge of federal, state, local and international regulations.

·         Demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and  be able to prioritize work and find ways to accomplish all work in a timely manner with quality results.

·         Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of management.
