DISPLAY MATERIALS & PROCESS ENGINEER
E Ink is seeking a Display Materials & Process Engineer. As part of the Product Development team, this energetic individual will have responsibility for display module material design, material selection, and process development in the creation of an official E Ink module reference design. This work will be done jointly with external development partners and customers, such that it results in a manufacturing process for the construction of E Ink’s unique electronic-paper products. E Ink uses a statistical approach to process development, and this Senior Engineer will define and execute DOE’s, analyze data, present results to define the materials and processes. Typical problems include: selection of barrier films, process conditions for automated display sealing, and evaluation of display design options.
Job Responsibilities
Work closely with customers, partners, and internal groups to refine requirements and design display structures that support market needs; Develop a production Electronic Paper Display (EPD) reference design for sharing with customers and partners; Develop a production EPD reference cell assembly process demonstrating the volume manufacturing of E Ink imaging film into an EPD product solution; Work with external partners to select, specify, and qualify substrate materials for E Ink’s imaging film products; Develop lab and pilot scale processes to manufacture the reference design. Work with suppliers and vendors to implement scaled-up processes for high volume production. This will likely include the specifying and/or designing automated equipment and qualifying their installation; Collaborate with partners to define, design, and manufacture product solutions for active matrix EPD; Work with Analytical test staff to correlate component and product performance with process parameters; Work with the Product Engineer to support product qualification; and Some international travel is required.
Skill Requirements
Advanced Engineering degree and 5-years industry experience (or Undergraduate Engineering degree and 10-years). Experience with material properties, composite film integration, or display design a strong bonus; Strong relationship and organizational skills to manage joint development projects required; Developed a product or process that was transferred to volume manufacturing; Demonstrated ability to design and execute controlled DOEs to enhance manufacturing processes; Demonstrated ability to work effectively with suppliers and engineering, operations, and analytical test resources to develop solutions to manufacturing challenges; Experience in developing products consisting of plastics, adhesives, and water vapor barriers is preferred; Experience developing jointly with Asian companies preferred; and Comfortable working in a fast paced, self managed environment.
