NW Natural offers a Corporate Communications Manager opportunity to interested applicants. The following is a summary of the position specifics along with the overarching job description.
POSITION SPECIFICS
Purpose of Position: Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, this position will serve as the company’s lead spokesperson and be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company’s media relations and internal communications efforts.
Position Essential Functions:
· Work directly with senior executives to develop responses to media inquiries and strategies for proactively communicating the company's messages externally.
· Help ensure that fair, balanced and accurate information about NW Natural is reported by the news media.
· Develop and oversee implementation of company’s internal communications plan, including various written publications, the Intranet site and special events.
· Participate in proactive and reactive corporate crisis management efforts. Manage the company’s Crisis Communication plan and play a key role in ensuring its effective execution if needed.
· Stay current with industry trends and regulatory developments to ensure external environmental factors are considered in all communications recommendations and decisions
· Manage staff of three to create a variety of internal and external materials, including employee publications, press releases, public relations events, backgrounders, presentations, talking points, etc.
· Manages communications and research consultants on a variety of projects as needed.
· Manages departmental budget and project budgets as necessary.
Position Qualifications (In addition to required job description elements provided below):
· 7 to 10 years of experience, with media relations and professional writing experience.
· Experience in a professional/corporate communications environment.
· A demonstrated ability to manage crisis communications.
· Previous experience with managing staff and budgets required.
· Experience working closely with finance and/or investor relations teams in developing financial and investor-focused communications, including earnings releases and annual reports to stockholders a plus.
· Knowledge of local media strongly preferred.
· Knowledge of utility industry preferred, but not required.
· Project management experience with demonstrated success preferred.
· Requires strong proofreading skills and keen attention to detail.
· Pager duty required (2 work weeks a month, and one weekend a month minimum.)
· Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field required, Masters degree is a plus .

Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in applicable field or combination of experience and education contributing to the development of proven ability to manage a significant entity.
