Clariant is looking for a highly motivated individual to fill a Chemist position at its Martin, SC facility. 

 

Chemist

 

Basic Responsibilities: The individual will perform complex chemical synthesis, formulation, and analysis in support of Clariant’s Martin Site Chemicals business segment.

 

Specific Duties:

·  Sets up and simultaneously performs multiple laboratory chemical reactions and formulating experiments of various types.

·  Performs routine and non-routine chemical analysis.  Understands the meaning of complex analytical results and recognizes machine/equipment errors.

·  Evaluates and troubleshoots mechanical and instrumentation to ensure equipment is operating properly.

·  Interacts with production operators to evaluate trends and yields.

·  Performs work according to minimal written or verbal instructions in a timely and efficient manner.

·  Works independently on short term and long term assignments of varying complexity.  May work directly with production or other entities on projects.  May have some customer contact.

·  Maintains a detailed and clear record of lab work in a laboratory notebook.

·  Summarizes lab work in written reports or summaries when applicable.

·  Performs semi-complex to complex mathematical calculations, and interprets data.

·  Provides input regarding the direction of lab projects.

·  May develop and write new lab procedures and work instructions.

·  Assists in the training of other employees.

·  Maintains a safe and clean working environment.  This includes cleaning lab benches, fume hoods, glassware, and related equipment, and maintaining safety equipment.

·  Adheres to all safety rules including the safe handling of chemicals.

 

 Skills/Job Requirements

 

Required

·  Doctorate degree in Chemistry (Synthetic or Organic Chemistry preferred)

·  Strong work ethic

·  Strong math skills

·  Strong oral and written communication skills

·  Able to work in a team environment

·  Able to work independently

·  0 – 5 years of experience

·  Thorough understanding of lab priorities, operations, and procedures
