Chemical Engineer / Process Engineer
Corn Products International, one of the 50 largest market cap companies headquartered in Chicago, and a $3.4 billion manufacturer and supplier of refined agriculturally derived ingredients to more than 60 industries, including food, feed, soft drink, brewing, pharmaceutical, corrugating, paper and textile, is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to supervise capital projects/permits from conception through start-up, monitor process conditions taking action as required to ensure optimal performance, and initiate and implement process improvements to allow the plant to meet operational and fiscal goals.
Key Result Areas:
Engineering – Design and implement capital permits, projects, and engineering studies as assigned to support plant goals. Manage projects within budget, delivering targeted return on investment, in compliance with Corn Products’ ethics, safety, and engineering standards.
Projects - Identify, develop and initiate capital projects with an implementation date of two to five years in duration. Lead projects up to $10M, trains junior engineers, and directs project contractors and consultants as necessary. Demonstrate that completed projects meet the design objectives and ensure that maintenance, operation, and training documentation is up to date when projects are completed.
Process Support and Improvement – Provide technical support to maintenance and operations groups including process studies, troubleshooting, process optimization, and maintenance of historical data to identify, monitor and control key operating parameters. Lead plant efforts in continuous improvement of the process through process optimization, training and maintaining department’s technical proficiencies.
Safety – Provide technical support to the plant safety professional on facility safety initiatives when designing and/or redesigning work processes to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses.
Technology – Keep current in discipline, assess new technologies and ideas, develop, evaluate, and seek approval for new concepts to improve the efficiency and the capability of the process, the life and safety of the facility, and improve product quality
Manufacturing Supplies- Monitor plant processes for use of manufacturing supplies, and utilities. Implement systems and programs that maintain or exceed quality and production goals while minimizing supply costs
Requirements
Knowledge and understanding of basic chemistry, heat and material balances, P&ID development, mechanical and physical/chemical separations, evaporation, crystallization, drying, material handling, CGMP, and energy management.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement action plans and follow-up to assure effective results.
Ability to successfully manage and implement multiple capital projects, permits, and perform engineering functions in a plant environment.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information and prepare concisely written reports.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment, build consensus, and foster relationships at multiple organization levels and across different organizational functions.
Demonstrated degree of sound judgment, resourcefulness, initiative, and innovation in handling complex technical assignments, with minimal supervision.
Bachelor degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
