CVD Engineer

The person in this position will be responsible for (a) defining the technical aspects of new installations (commissioning experiments, deposition conditions needed, layer structures, chemical flows, etc.) to assist commercial/engineering group in designing and installing new coating systems and (b) laboratory development of new coatings and processes and transferring the technology to commercialization. The former requires knowledge of CVD, glass production lines, and chemical handling/vaporization. The latter requires materials properties knowledge, lab-scale engineering for constructing or modifying lab coating systems, and knowledge of plant environments in order to facilitate and oversee implementation at the plant level.

Specific job activities include:
1. Design and conduct experiments focused on depositing materials at acceptable commercial rates.
2. Identify the materials desired for performance in specific applications and obtain suitable precursors to evaluate (internal synthesis or purchase).
3. Conduct performance tests on deposited coatings, interpret results, and communicate to manager/team.
4. With guidance from senior personnel, develop coatings, constructions, and processes that adequately avoid infringement of patented technology.
5. Create invention records and complete experimentation targeted to protect Arkema's intellectual property.
6. Generate ideas for new products/applications in areas consistent with business interests based on knowledge of markets and/or technology.
7. On intermittent basis (up to 3x per year), attend installations of CVD Systems at customers to direct commissioning experiments and provide QC training for customers. Multiple, rotating teams will be used to support this function.

- M.S. in Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Scienceor B.S. in similar degree area with experience in relevant field.
- Knowledge of optical and electrical properties and their performance measurement techniques.
- Knowledge of commercially available coating processes for thin films preferred.
- Experience with statistical design of experiments and statistical data analysis preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present results clearly and concisely to variety of audiences.
- Chinese or Russian language skills a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills that work with both internal and external scientists.
- The ability to work and think both in a team environment and as an independent researcher.
