Huntsman currently has a challenging opportunity for a CHEMICAL / MINING TECHNICAL ENGINEER  for the Resources Fuels and Lubes (RFL) â€“ Mining division of our Performance Products business group.(Telecommute / Home Based opportunity.  Due to the amount of travel, the home office must be strategically located near an international airport.)  The incumbent will contribute to the selection, evaluation and adoption of Huntsman products at existing mines and new mining project starts that result in new mining business in the Americas, consistent with the growth targets of the strategic business plan.  The incumbent will be responsible for supporting existing business through the promotion of Huntsman product capabilities across the industry.   In this position you will be responsible for defining, prioritizing, coordinating and participating in providing support to metallurgical activities at customer sites, contract metallurgical laboratories, project engineering companies, and research and development centers.  Approximately 30 to 50 percent travel in North America and South America.

 

 

Key Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:Safety and Environment – Ensure that company, customer and statutory requirements are observed whether working on company, customer or third party premises.  Advise customers on the safe and correct usage of Huntsman products and promote the Huntsman culture on safety, health and environment and ensure that it is fully implemented and actively supported during laboratory activities and at customer/client operations.Customer and End User Interface –  Develop, through site (mine) visits, laboratory test programs and trials,  a direct working relationship with key sales and metallurgical staff at our regional distributor (Route To Market) partners and with key metallurgical/operations staff at the end user mines that supports existing business and contributes to the selection, evaluation and adoption of Huntsman products.  Provide skilled metallurgical advice on process problems and the selection, evaluation and effective use of Huntsman products to our distributor and end user mine contacts that demonstrates the product cost benefit and reinforces the Huntsman product and metallurgical capabilities.Distributor and Sales Support – Provide support to the Huntsman sales team by coordinating the Regional Distributor and Huntsman activities at the end user mines that lead to the recommendation for and adoption of Huntsman products. Work with the regional RTM distributors to provide the required metallurgical support at strategic customers and contribute, through training and regular interaction, to the development of these partners to provide the required level of independent metallurgical support for Huntsman’s products and strategic business growth objectives.Industry Interface - Support Huntsman’s regional and global business objectives through the direct interaction with the Global Mining Companies in the America’s region that facilitates the identification of global mining project/business opportunities and the coordination of the required Global/Regional Huntsman response. Build and maintain an effective interface with key regional metallurgical laboratories, project engineering firms and Industry R&D centers and associations that leads to the early identification of new mining business opportunities for Huntsman products and facilitates the selection and appropriate evaluation the most suitable Huntsman products. Contribute to the development of a favorable Industry profile for Huntsman products by conducting targeted training programs and symposia.Business Development - Identify and define new business opportunities that are consistent with the Huntsman Strategy and have the potential to deliver forward growth. Work with the Group Metallurgist, Market managers (Americas and Global) and America’s Account Managers to prioritize and define the appropriate Huntsman (and Distribution partner) response. Work with the Technical Manager(s) – Mining and RFL, to define future new product development opportunities consistent with the Huntsman strategy and market posture.Quality and Standards - Contribute to a quality culture that exhibits continuous improvement and leads to the maintenance and improvement of conformance to Huntsman, customer and statutory accreditation requirements.Facilities and Equipment - Develop an awareness of the capabilities and strengths of the contract metallurgical laboratories and R&D centers, and their facilities that are suitable for Huntsman utilization to progress product evaluation programs in support of new business development and product development activities. Use relationships to engage these centers and facilities for Huntsman utilization as required.

 

Educational Requirements and Work Experience:Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Material Science.Preferred:  Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy.  Master’s degree in Metallurgical Science or Chemical Engineering or Business with 10+ years of related experience.Chemical Engineer with 3 to 5 years experience in technical support or technical sales in the chemical industry, particularly in the fields of colloid science or surfactant chemistry will be given strong consideration. 3 to 5 years operational mineral processing experience is preferred.  Prior work experience demonstrating technical capability and sound technical understanding of the range of advanced mineral processing technologies in use or under development in the mineral industry. Experience in sales, marketing and or business development is a plus.Extractive and mineral processing experience is a plus.

 

Special Requirements & Qualifications (Training, Technical skills, etc.):Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, E-mail and Microsoft programs.Must have demonstrated strong project leadership, management and motivational skills in a diverse team.The ability to develop detailed technical knowledge of our key customer’s production capabilities and an understanding of their technology. Must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate personal initiative and self motivation. The ability to work as part of a multifunctional and global team, interact well and confidently with customers at an operations level is required.Must possess good interpersonal skills and a good balance of leadership and analytical skills in order to provide a dynamic positive and effective function to the role for which the strategy is to grow business and market share in the Mining industry through direct customer and industry interface. Must have the ability to think laterally and conceptually and the ability to develop a sound understanding of the strategic direction of the business in order to define and deliver outcomes supporting this strategy.
