Business Development Manager, Food Ingredients

FMC Corporation is currently seeking a Business Development Manager, BioPolymer Food Ingredients at our Philadelphia, PA offices. This is an excellent opportunity to join in our BioPolymer Food Ingredients Department in a key individual contributor role. In this role, you will be able to utilize your knowledge and experience, expand your expertise and potentially grow your career. This position’s focus is on two primary areas: (1) Marketing leadership on key market segment activity and trends to drive growth in the Food/Specialty or related businesses (2) Leadership in the evaluation of long-term step-change growth opportunities for the Food Ingredients business, together with key Technology resources. Success in this position will be defined by the development of actionable strategies for increasing growth in key market segments and by sound business case development and commercialization of longer term growth opportunities. This will require close coordination all Food Ingredients business functions in order to ensure that the organization is mobilized towards executing on these goals. The position will work closely with Commercial Development colleagues in Europe and Asia and will develop opportunities in all relevant business segments within these geographies. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, innovative, and have a background and proven track record of identifying and implementing exciting new commercial development opportunities in the Food Ingredients, Personal Care, Industrial, Nutraceuticals or Life Science Businesses. Responsibilities: Work closely with sales, customers, and other sources of information to identify trends and customer needs by closely monitoring key market segments driving current and future growth for the business. Communicate these trends and market needs to relevant marketing, technical, and sales resources. Initiate marketing contacts / relationships as appropriate with key customers to regularly monitor customer needs in target segments, resulting in the development of a clear Voice of Customer perspective for the business. In the most attractive market segments, maintain a deep level of subject matter expertise that ensures early identification of new trends and a rapid response for exploiting these trends. Lead identification, business case justification, and program development for new market-driven products and / or applications. Work closely with Europe and Asia Pacific Commercial Development functions to ensure a ‘global’ perspective on market segment trends through ‘local’ understanding. Together with the Global Marketing Director, lead the development of an ‘outside-in’ market segment strategy to guide business direction and resource focus. Incumbent must be able to perform a robust segmentation of the Food Ingredients, Nutriceuticals, Life Science businesses and define opportunities to play and win. Managing and setting strategy for Health and Nutrition channel management, targeting channels that are Health and Nutrition specific. Identify and evaluate longer-term, sustainable opportunities that have the potential to grow the business outside of it existing product focus. Lead external market & financial analysis and coordinate technology assessment to fully assess opportunity. Develop sound business case for pursuing most attractive opportunities. Manage the process of taking most attractive opportunities from the “concept state” through to actual sales, with pre-determined milestones and as an integrated part of the R&D portfolio process. Work with customers and FMC R&D to determine the correct type of information that needs developed to support potential launches & required investments, including clinical trials, feeding studies, regulatory and legal requirements. Develop a sustainable pipeline of growth opportunities for the business. Prioritize opportunities based upon market potential and technical capability. Coordinate development activities with all other functional disciplines as needed to ensure that programs continue to move forward.
Experience: 5-7 years functional experience in commercial development and / or marketing. At least 5 years Food Ingredients industry required with a strong emphasis on Nutraceuticals or Life Sciences, desired. Demonstrated analytical, planning, presentation and project implementation skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated team building and consensus-building approach. Requires 40% Travel, both domestic and international
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Technical or Business discipline required, food science preferred.
