Sr. Electronic Publisher - Fountain Valley

Job Summary This position is responsible for the desktop production, edit and light technical authoring of a wide variety of documentation for print and Internet delivery. This includes, but is not limited to, owner manuals, technical bulletins, installation sheets, wiring diagrams (schematics) training manuals and service manuals. The senior electronic publisher works closely with client subject matter experts to produce documents that strictly adhere to established specifications and/or style guides. Meticulous attention to detail is essential. This position is also responsible for coaching Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on specifications and for suggesting improvements to their documentation. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor while dealing with a wide variety of communication styles is vital. Must be able to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines while working in an environment with changing priorities, frequent interruptions and a high volume of work in process.This position may work at the client site or be co-located. The successful candidate will have a minimum 5 years of experience desktop publishing for technical subjects in a fast paced environment. Automotive knowledge is a plus but is not required. Fluency (read/write) in Canadian French and/or Mexican Spanish may be required for some assignments. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of industry standard software packages and XML editors is also required. (See the ¿education and experience¿ section below). Responsibilities 1. Produces finished type, layout, art and graphics for deliverables with minimal to no supervision.2. Prepares projects for print and Web distribution.3. Creates specifications and/or interprets original designs through the use of style sheets and templates.4. Reviews and corrects materials to meet customer specifications. This includes, editorial and light authoring work, in addition to illustration and page layout.5. Communicates with departmental managers, customers and customer SMEs to answer questions and to coach on styles/specifications.6. Responsible for prioritizing workload and tracking high volume of work (documents) in process.7. May complete special assignments as directed. Qualifications 1. Ability to read, comprehend and follow complicated verbal and written communication, such as design specifications, style guides and technical information.2. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and XML editors such as Arbortext EPIC Editor or XMetal.3. Intermediate to advanced ability to optimize and convert graphics for use in various applications.4. Ability to import material, create templates, utilize formatting and art functions in systems such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.5. Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Interleaf desirable.6. Ability to monitor and assess one¿s own performance within deadlines, and to utilize appropriate resources to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.7. Ability to work with frequently changing priorities.8. Ability to work overtime as requested.9. Approximately five years of experience in electronic publishing, Internet publishing, or equivalent.10. A 2 year degree in related program, graphic design, or equivalent.11. Ability to read/write in Canadian French or Mexican Spanish, may be required for specific assignments.
