Logistics Specialist - 2nd shift

At Pacer International our company-wide goal is simple and direct: Get our customer's products to their destinations as quickly and as economically as possible.  As a third-party logistics company we have formed strategic relationships with carriers and others in the transportation industry to best meet our customers' worldwide shipping needs.  Serving clients in such industries as automotive, food, retail, appliances, electronics, paper, and lighting, we do everything from coordinating shipments of raw materials and components between suppliers and manufacturing facilities, to overseeing the shipment of finished products between manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, and customers. Our operations are centralized and around-the-clock, which allows us to constantly, efficiently, and effectively oversee the movement of goods.   We are actively recruting for a Logistics Specialist position.  This position receives orders, sets up loads, inputs shipment data to allow for proper tracking, dispatches equipment, traces shipments and negotiates rates on a per load basis. Functions: A. Receives load information through the PGL system or by fax or phone. B. Acquires and inputs data provided by customer. C. Coordinates with origin and destination facilities the receipt and dissemination of pertinent load information and requirements (i.e. type of equipment, shipping hours, etc.) D. Assigns loads to carrier based on customer requirements. E. Releases loads to carriers and dispatches them for pick up. F.  Track and trace loads from beginning to end.  Update load information accurately and in a timely manner. G. Serve as liaison between PGL, the customer and the carrier as needed in order to develop strong communication and operating processes. H. Processes accessorial charges in a timely manner. I. Cross-trains and assists with cross-training others on assigned customer profiles as well as helping to train others on ISO procedures and the computer system. J. Keeps customer informed as to status of shipments and reacts to route problems in a productive manner. K. Learns and maintains assigned customer profilers and prepares profiles for new customers. L.  Updates operating procedures and manual.  Make recommendations as to procedural improvements. M.  Develop and maintain positive relationships with customer contacts in order to grow business levels and capitalize on additional opportunities. N. Develops a broad-based knowledge of all services performed within Pacer Global Logistics for their customers (i.e. claims, billing etc…) EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: A. High school diploma or equivalent. B. 1 year transportation or customer service experience or a college degree in a related field. C. Good organizational and analytical skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. D. Strong communication skills; works well under pressure; team player. E. Broad knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred. F.  Ability to use standard office equipment such as computer terminal, calculator, fax machine and copier. This is 2nd shift position Monday-Friday.
