Instructional Designer
Sr. Instructional Design ConsultantKaiser PermanenteOakland, CA The Sr. Instructional Design Consultant position is responsible for managing the design, building and testing of compliance learning solutions for Kaiser employees nationally. Under the direction of the National Compliance Office (NCO) Training Director, this position serves as senior consultant, designer, developer/programmer and evaluator to NCO Learning Consultants and Regional Compliance staff, for classroom, web-based learning and video products.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Consults with NCO staff, Regional Compliance staff, National Services staff and other subject matter experts to develop and implement general and specialized compliance training curricula. 2. Identifies, develops and implements course development strategies and processes. 3. Manages and executes the orderly production of curriculum materials, to include writing, editing and designing instructional/educational sequences and activities in conjunction with SMEs (subject-matter experts) and our curricula. 4. Consults with stakeholders to present solution options that support stakeholder business requirements. Directs the analysis and definition of efficient, cost-effective e-learning and web-based performance support solutions. Manages and executes the orderly production of e-learning and other web-based or delivered performance support content including writing, editing, content layout, information architecture, non-linear navigation, programming, and testing in the production environment.5. Recommends new instructional formats and technologies to Manager and NCO team. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Bachelors degree in Instructional Design, Information Science, or related field required or equivalent experience. 2. Masters degree preferred. 7+ years experience in managing the development of learning projects, including instructional design, course development, project management, and in using computer-based tools in the development and delivery of learning and knowledge management projects. 3. Experience to include 2 years of supervisory experience in consulting, project management and coaching. 4. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email (Lotus Notes), eLearning content development systems, and learning management systems. Experience with SabaPublisher (Lectora) a plus. 5. Less than 15% travel required.JOB REQUIREMENTS1. Excellent consulting skills. Ability to manage work-teams in diverse sub-organizations enterprise-wide. 2. Excellent communication skills; strong analytical and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; able to lead and collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team. 3. Must have strong listening and presentation skills, including the ability to manage design critiques and explain visual design concepts to non-designers.4. Must be organized, able to act independently, have an eye for detail and can put ideas into a tangible form. 5. Ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems and meet aggressive deadlines. Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. 6. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access), Lotus Notes, Visio. Experience with Learning Management Systems and web-based training development tools required. 7. Ability to influence other groups for the purpose of negotiating agreement on common processes and training delivery systems and modalities.
