Family Support Services Advocate

Educational Data Systems, Inc., a 27 year old company, is dedicated to help individuals move from unemployment to employment.  We do this through counseling, customized training and job development.  Our company provides these services to clients in over 20 locations throughout Michigan and Pennsylvania.  EDSI is committed to quality.  We are ISO 9001 certified which enables us to maintain the level of organization necessary to effectively meet all of our clients’ needs.

 

The Family Support Services Advocate will serve as the EARN Center point-of-contact in providing support, education, resources and referrals to outside agencies related to the children of EARN center participants.  This staff person will serve as a support to the case management team in assisting participants with children who have at least one, but not limited to the following barriers:  behavioral and/or emotional problems, receive or need mental health services, have physical disabilities, are receiving or need special education services, placed or referred to the juvenile justice system and/or families involved with DHS.

 

Job ResponsibilitiesProvide support, resources, education and referrals as it relates to the children of the EARN Center participant.Create and update a resource guide for all available agencies within Philadelphia County.Build relationships with neighborhood agencies and schools.Conduct as assessment of the family's barriers as it relates to the participant's children.Make phone calls to set up referrals/appointments to agencies for further assistance.Conduct meetings with parent and children to address issues and barriers as needed with follow up, next steps and resolution on a case-by-case basis.Conduct home visits to support participant in dealing with the child.Develop and empower participants on how to conduct meetings with agencies regarding their children's needs.Provide basic case notes in the CAPS system.Maintain separate case files to document confidential information.

Education and Experience RequirementsMust have knowledge of TANF rules and requirements.Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Human Services or Psychology with a minimum of 1 year experience or Associate's Degree with 3-5 years experience.Possess strong knowledge of child resources within the region.
