POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Communications Manager is responsible for managing, developing and distributing strategic communications for both internal and external audiences for the company within the framework established by the Director of Corporate & Franchise Marketing and the Executive Management team.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Manage company’s Public Relations efforts:
· Drive media relations for the company including strategy, concepts and writing
· Manage national corporate messaging with the media and the analytic community
· Day-to-day management of the company’s relationship, deliverables, and budget with public relations agency
· Responsible for preparing corporate representatives and/or franchisees for all media interviews thru training, role playing, and preparation of briefing materials
· Collect, track and post to website Wireless Toyz media clips
· Prepare monthly reports on media coverage and value by market area and company overall
· Develop company policy with regard to media contact; insure all parties in network are made aware of policy and that it is enforced
· Develop annual PR strategy to include: marketing events and programs, corporate messaging (internal / external), marketing fund imaging, and brand development
Manage company’s Internal Communications function:
· Manage and develop crisis communications and support the management of issues; develop comprehensive crisis management plan and insure all necessary parties at corporate & franchise level have been trained in appropriate implementation of plan
· Executive communication development, communication support, and advice
· Develop and distribute newsletters to staff/franchisees, business partners and customers
· Hold responsibility for timely development, delivery, and promotion of company’s National Marketing Kits
· Write, edit and proofread company communications prior to distribution to ensure quality and clarity; prepare communications on behalf of corporate staff as required
· Implement and drive consistent grammar and appropriate style into company communications; must be able to discern between editorial and marketing/advertising communication styles and to utilize both as appropriate
· Work to enhance clarity, consistency, timeliness, and accuracy of communications; must insure that all deadlines are met without exception
· Must prepare and adhere to annual communication calendar for internal / external communications
Spearhead communications surrounding the national advertising marketing fund
· Establish consistent, effective, timely and engaging communications to increase communication with the network
· Establish clear understanding across the network of the challenges facing the fund
· Establish the fund as a valuable resource to the network; show the network the value of the fund, don’t just tell the value; drive awareness around the items that are paid for by the national fund and the value that they provide
· Increase network participation in programs paid for by the national fund
· Responsible for increasing network approval rating of national fund efforts
· Put a face to the fund and establish it as an expert marketing resource
Drive Corporate Culture Change through communication
· Leverage culture change methodology and a strategic communication program to achieve a organizational culture change
· Responsible for facilitating increased franchisee approval rating of the franchisor
Manage the Franchise Advisory Council (FAC) function
· Establish regularly-scheduled meeting calendar and annual goals for the FAC
· Achieve clear communication between corporate staff, FAC members, and franchisees
· Organize, facilitate and develop materials for FAC meetings – both with HQ and regions
· Work with FAC members and company leadership to submit and drive FAC agenda items
· Establish the FAC as a respected driver of the business and a resource for franchisees
· Institute the FAC as an key part of the decision-making process for the organization and a driver for major company initiatives
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· B.A. in Public Relations or a related field
· 5-7 years professional public relations and / or corporate communications experience
· Knowledge of Associated Press / journalistic grammar and style and marketing / advertising grammar and style
· Strong organizational / project management skills; must be able to meet both marketing and editorial deadlines without fail
· Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
· Retail marketing / promotion experience
· Multi-tasking abilities
· Project prioritization and time management
· Organizational skills
· Microsoft Office including PowerPoint
· Internet research and navigation
· Able to initiate and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with all levels in the organization, as well as with outside vendors and media
NON-ESSENTIAL, BUT PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· Experience in and / or understanding of:
o Marketing functions and concepts (including advertising, promotions/events, and Web)
o Business-to-business sales concepts
· More than six months working in the wireless industry for a carrier, handset manufacture, after-market parts / services company, or wireless retailer
· Working knowledge of Front Page
· Working knowledge of HTML
