Job Title: Business Development Manager

Projects involved with:
- Regulatory Approval of Green Lasers within the Federal and international communities
- Licensing of key IP that will help “enable” our Green Laser ecosystem to grow and the category to develop
- Develop white papers and presentation for customers, partners, suppliers that help drive the creation of the use models in microprojection
- Competitive Analysis for ecosystem focusing on the component/module levels of the indsutry
Role within Green Laser team group:
- Business Development Manager, reporting to Program Director of Green Laser
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Collaborate directly with Corning scientific community, Green laser engineering development organization and businesses to identify technology projects which support business and strategic growth initiatives.
- Participate as key member of a Green Laser project team, investigating and recommending technical market opportunities that fit with Corning’s capabilities.
- Write and manage technology briefs to key industry organizations with goal to evangelize the benefits and attributes of Corning's green laser modules used in microprojection applications.
- Technical liaison between Corning’s Green laser team and selected semiconductor companies (National, Maxim) to insure proper management of the ASICs (driver electronics) is completed.
- Be technical/new business catalyst for the organization
Travel Requirements:
30% - 40% business travel required.
International & Domestic.

40 hours/week
Required Education:
PhD in Materials Science, Chemical, Ceramics, Optical Physics fields preferred
Required Years and Area of Experience:
10+ years experience. Background in business and product development, business strategy and proposal writing desired.
Required Skills:
1. Must be able to understand and evaluate early stage research opportunities for Corning on a technical level, and articulate rationale for pursuing them. High technical curiosity.
2. Think strategically about technology and its role in creating strategic business options. Some business analysis competency required.
3. Must have desire/willingness to develop early stage strategic business development skills, such as initiating collaborations, creating development agreements, cultivating funding sources, and developing research plans/project structure.
4. Must write & speak convincingly, persuasively.
5. Ability to work with consumer institutions and government agencies and lead the classification of a new technology and product classification
6. Must have the ability to act as an evangelist for the category creation of green lasers within the industry ecosystems of microprojection.
7. Ability to work as a sponsor and champion to component or subsystem customers; understanding and championing our customers (Voice of the customer - component

1. Previous research/development experience in a technical field
2. Previous proposal-writing experience
3. Experience in judgment & prioritization of technology ideas
4. Experience in new business development roles.

1. Good communications/selling skills at different levels of internal and external organizations
