AZTEC AQUAPLEX COORDINATOR
Under the direction of the Campus Recreation Assistant Director, the primary responsibilities will include the overall management of the $12 million aquatic facility at San Diego State University. The complex includes three pools: a 51-meter x 25 yard competitive pool, a 20-person hydrotherapy spa, a 7,300 sq. ft. zero-edge leisure pool with beach entry; an adjacent conference room, pool house (guest services, restroom, locker room, showers and offices), and 12 tennis courts.
The successful candidate will coordinate and manage the aquatic programs (swim lessons, drop-in recreation). In addition, this position will interface with athletic coaches and building maintenance and custodial services staff who will manage the water quality and cleanliness of the facility. The Aztec Aquaplex Coordinator will ensure students enjoy the benefits of the facility by implementing recreational programs, special events, water aerobics and summer youth programming. This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive lifeguard program and will supervise monthly risk management training programs and evaluations including maintaining, charting and following up on incident and accident reports for aquatics and coordinating planned emergency drills. The coordinator will also assist the full-time Aquatic Engineer, as needed, with daily chemical water disinfectant and filtration system maintenance.
All candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Kinesiology/Exercise Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Must have at least three years of direct full-time professional experience with an aquatic facility. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate part-time student staff; must possess experience with budget, financial management, marketing, and fiscal accountability, as well as an understanding of superior customer service standards. Must have AED, Lifeguard, CPR and First-Aid certifications through the American Red Cross or another nationally recognized organization. WSI and CPO certification also preferred. This position requires flexibility for minimal evening, weekend and holiday work.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary Range: $38,109-$57,163/year. This is a full-time, hourly, exempt position.
