Position Purpose:

The Optimization Software Engineer will be part of the company's primary team for developing its cutting-edge optimization and scheduling technology, which is branded as AdLearn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


The engineer will support the development, test, and deployment of AdLearn technologies, and then must be able to apply his or her understanding of AdLearn's mathematical concepts and technical implementation in support of the needs of the company's daily operations and business goals. The engineer will work within the Advanced Research department, which develops the AdLearn technologies, and support the office by participating in all software development projects of the office. While the work environment in the Advanced Research department is casual, the software engineer will be among the brightest minds of the company and will be pushed to the edge of his or her intellectual capabilities. This job is for someone who likes to proactively solve problems, would like to be challenged by unique coding assignments, is intrigued by advanced mathematics, and is capable of understanding how details impact the "big picture" and vice versa. Actively Support the development of AdLearn technologies


Participate in the requirements gathering process
Design and develop code per provided requirements
Develop and execute tests to validate developed software and ensure adherence to requirements
Understand the concepts of statistics, linear math, and calculus and be able to implement code in support of those concepts
Provide technical support in database utilization and code implementation



Be able to occasionally travel to Baltimore, MD (2 times/year at most)
Other duties as needed



Skills:


Strong problem solving skills is a must! This is primarily a problem-solving job
Strong C++ coding abilities with 0-4 years work experience
Experience with Java, Python, and/or Perl
Understand the concepts of object-oriented software design
Skills and experience on Linux and Windows systems
Database utilization skills, must be able to interact with MySQL or Oracle databases via SQL
Excellent software testing and debugging skills
Excellent English communications and people skills
Experience with distributed programming, preemptive threads and TCP/IP programming a plus
Strong math background, especially in statistics, is a highly desired

Education / Experience:


0-4 year experience in software design and implementation
B.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering required, M.S. highly desired.
Other engineering or math degrees considered if applicant can demonstrate software engineering skills
