Senior IT Systems Engineer

Al Jazeera International (English Channel) is seeking a Senior IT professional to support applications and servers in a LAN/WAN environment. Reporting to the IT & Broadcast Director, the IT systems engineer monitors, troubleshoots and applies corrective action to ensure network-oriented service and software functionality for near 100% availability 24/7 365 days a year.

Primary ResponsibilitiesSupport enterprise data and application systems providing service for the DC office.Support office LAN-based PC, laptop and printer infrastructure (this may include scanners and faxes).Monitor systems and troubleshoot hardware and software problems pertaining to LAN and WAN.Support and maintain corporate Storage Area Network and fiber channel devices.Support Business Continuity efforts through development and implementation of data retention, enterprise backup and recovery policies and procedures.Assist in the development and maintenance of servers and applications.Perform system configuration and build and maintain administration of UNIX, FreeBSD, Linux and Windows servers.Articulate technical information clearly and simply to non-technical people.Support planning, prototyping and upgrading of new releases of network technology assets: hardware, software, server and client applications.

RequirementsIT-related associate’s degree or related work experience.Minimum of 5 years experience with various operating systems, networking and systems development/scripting.5-10 years experience in software/system designs (network management or monitoring systems, ticketing systems, etc.).Ability to perform advanced server and network administration skills, including upgrades and maintenance of hardware, operating systems (Windows NT/2000/2003 server, Solaris UNIX, RedHat Linux, OS X and other Linux flavors), LAN/WAN, DNS, TCP/IP, LDAP, WINS DHCP, Active Directory and IIS support functions in a global environment.Advanced scripting skills using PHP, Perl, JavaScript, JAVA and other languages.Knowledge of VoIP is desired, but not required.UNIX Systems Certification and/or Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) or MCSE preferred.Demonstrated knowledge in four or more of the following areas: User Administration (UNIX or Windows)UNIX (FreeBSD and/or Solaris)MySQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration Windows 2003Windows XP Apple OS X and related Apple hardware (desired, not required) Cisco switches and routers (desired, not required)Symantec AV and Ghost SAN Technology and concepts

 

NOTE: Some travel might be required.
