Cablevision has recently acquired the Newsday Media Group including Newsday, one of the nation's largest daily newspapers serving 1.5 million in Long Island and New York City. In addition, the Group includes amNew York which has become the largest free daily newspaper in NYC with an average weekday circulation of 335,000; Newsday Interactive, including Newsday.com and other local information sites such as ExploreLI.com and Newsday.com/NZone, the popular high school sports destination (in March 2008, Newsday.com reached 3.2 million monthly unique visitors and delivered over 66 million page views); Star Community Publishing, the Northeast's largest weekly shopper group with 181 editions and circulation of more than 2.6 million; and Island Publications which produces targeted lifestyle magazines including Distinction, Wellness, Parents & Children, LI Weddings and This Month on Long Island. RESPONSIBILTIES: Negotiate/draft a broad variety of Newsday contracts including but not limited to- Newsprint and ink- Online arrangements including content affiliation, ad-serving arrangements, search engine services and content feeds- Independent contractor distribution services- Ad sales- Editorial syndication- Wire/content services (e.g., Getty images, Reuters)- Customer terms and conditions- Archive Services- Joint distribution arrangements- Insertion / collating services- Truck / car leases- Customer terms and conditions Work with the VP to ensure that all material/sensitive legal issues are escalated/vetted through executive management. Supervise outside counsel to assure that the Company is receiving value for services rendered. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 7 years experience in an in-house corporate legal department or other relevant legal experience. Past focus on contract work is essential. JD degree and admissions to a state bar. Ability to analyze complex business and legal issues. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent follow-through and attention to detail. Strong negotiations / litigation skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Ability to work well under pressure while performing multiple tasks.
