As an important member of the unit, the successful candidate will be expected to both Host and Produce the weekday newscast for CBC Vancouver's late night news. In keeping with evolving editorial goals, the successful candidate will generate daily program ideas and program content. Utilizing a full range of presentation formats, the person will, with imagination and energy, bring a \"value-added\" approach to the news program. In addition to vetting scripts and writing program continuity, this host/producer will take an active interest in the overall content, texture and production values of the program, from assignment through program presentation. This role will require the candidate to also produce and present the 7:00 PM radio newscast. The successful candidate will be a strong team player, working closely with other staff and the executive producer. This is a temporary assignment, for approximately 6 months, beginning in September 2011.
Preference will be given to those candidates with previous experience as a host.
Qualifications
We're looking for a candidate with the following:
University degree or equivalent, with five years' experience of which three must involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry, which is directly related to the area of assignment.
Solid journalistic skills, with highly developed vetting skills
Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills, with the demonstrated ability to mentor and encourage creativity
Highly developed production skills, including strong ability to produce a variety of program formats and experience in field production
Highly developed technical skills, including field recording, and experience using a variety of equipment
Advanced skills in, iNews and Dalet and Desktop Editing.
Ability to work proactively and provide leadership by example in a journalistic unit composed of highly talented professionals
Strong on-air presentation in Television
Excellent knowledge of political, social, economic and national issues that pertain to BC
An understanding of the relationship between network and regional programming
A track record of completing assignments independently
Driven by a passion for public service journalism
