You will bring the video H.264 CODEC being developed by Dolby Research, to a state of productization, where it can be further enhanced and adapted for multiple Dolby implementations for PC, TV, STBs, handheld, and automotive products, in addition to be able to be marketed to other 3rd party developers outside of Dolby.
You will interface with Dolby Research to review the strategies and methods used in the current development of the H.264 encoder and decoder, including the pre-processing and post processing stages, and to provide further optimizations for the targeted embodiments.
You will lead and work with a Dolby Engineering group to organize and implement the adaptation of the CODEC uses in a planned and orderly way, and be responsible for the end deliverable of a robust, high performance, marketable product utilization of this CODEC including the proper interface and dynamic operation with the rest of the targeted system.

Essential Job Functions:


Contributing to the productization efforts to implement Dolby enhanced H.264 encoding and decoding in multiple products

Optimization of encoded video performance for HD resolution video for display on 1080p LCD displays

Optimization of encoded video performance that implements Dolby HDR technology in Dolby High Dynamic Range displays licensed for manufacturing by various TV and Panel manufacturers

Interfacing with PC application developers to incorporate the Dolby H.264 encoding and decoding algorithms in PC authoring tools

Integration of Dolby H.264 encoding and decoding algorithms in the Dolby products for TVs, STBs, and handheld/mobile products

Ability to work in fast paced development environment coordinating efforts with Marketing and Sale groups in addition to Engineering groups that may be in different geographical locations

Ability to present strategy and results to management in clear and concise presentations, documentation, etc.

Meticulous in design detail, reliability, and performance of video on various platforms

Maintain the highest technical and moral integrity for Dolby in the workplace and marketplace

Provide excellent example to the Dolby engineering workforce


Skills and Education:


BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science

In-depth knowledge of the H.264 standards and the implementations using these encoders or decoders in consumer products

In-depth knowledge of video base-band processing algorithms, encoding and decoding principles, including implementation aspects in both PC and embedded environments

Understanding of the use of pre and post processing and the use of metadata in the encoding and decoding process of video

Experience in the use of Matlab for algorithm modeling and the use of various video evaluation tools for evaluation of the modeling

Experience in converting Matlab based models to C coded models

Proven project experience in hardware-software co-designs

Networked TV development providing streaming, decoding, and display capability of compressed media in wired and wireless implementations

At least 5 years experience embedded software system development on ARM and MIPS based cores or DSPs used in multiple SOC ICs typically found in consumer products

At least 5 years experience in development of consumer products (TVs, STBs, DVD, or mobile products that proceeded to production for consumption by consumers in retail market chains such as Best Buy, Circuit City and similar retailers
