Currently, we have a great opportunity for a highly motivated professional to  manage the day-to-day operational support for Research and Development projects in a vibrant, fast-moving research and development department focused on delivering innovative, first-in-class therapies to patients in need.

Specifically, you will:

• Establish and maintain a flexible, seamless budgeting and change control systems to optimize operational and financial efficiencies with R&D business partners
• Work with Line Managers to insure that employees are optimally tasked to Project scope and priorities
• Formulate lean, but adequate, resource and headcount allocations in conjunction with Team Leaders and Line Managers with appropriate balance of internal and external resources
• Coordinate capacity management and resource optimization efforts with Research and Development management and with Human Resources business partners
• Establish, implement, and maintain appropriate metrics for key essential activities within the Research and Development organization to insure that both expectations and milestones are met
• Drive operational excellence and operational efficiency throughout the R&D organization by providing support of industry portfolio management best practices, phase appropriate resourcing and funding, and dynamic R&D portfolio management
• Support a culture of aggressive planning and resource allocation combined with a support system for dynamic, flexible, data-driven project redirection and reallocation
• Serve as an advocate for Development Teams
• Insure that projects deliver within the constraints of agreed budgets
• Facilitate alignment, decision making, and dispute resolution between Project Teams and leaders of functional areas
• Facilitate interaction of Project Teams with governance bodies to clarify project plans or prioritize resource allocations
• Manage the R&D Project Management group
• Integrate activities between Project Managers and Finance Business Partners required to develop and manage budgets
• Establish and provide oversight of a Business Office that establishes and manages contractors, contracted services, and consultants across the Research and Development organization
• Aid in the evaluation of and implementation of other identified central support functions.
• Provide operational support to portfolio decisions external to the R&D organization
• Insure appropriate Biometrics support for all functions within R&D organization
• Support and facilitate the development of analytical support to areas of Amylin outside of the R&D organization
• Coordinate Research and Development support to Other Parts of Amylin, Alliance, New Venture, and Therapeutic Area
• Support integration of Amylin’s R&D planning and management with that of our strategic R&D partners
• Coordinate regularly with Commercial Operations Counterpart

This position requires:

• A MS  in a scientific area relevant to drug development with 5+ years of management experience in one or more areas of drug development that provides a detailed understanding and knowledge of the drug development process
• A demonstrated ability to achieve alignment relying on skills other than directive authority
• Experience in formulating and executing detailed project plans
• A demonstrated understanding of risk and risk management in a pharmaceutical R&D technical and business environment
• Experience with building and managing research and development budgets
• Strong financial management competency
• Experience in managing and resolving personnel issues
• Experience with cross-functional teams and ability to mentor and develop the necessary leadership skills in team leaders
• Experience with business alliance relations/management and the entire R&D value chain
• Excellent people, leadership, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills
