Technical Sales Director
The Technical Sales Director will work within Symyx Business Development Organization and will be responsible for supporting, both from a technical and business development perspective, the North American revenue pipeline through the technical sale of platform systems, software, and research services, in addition to managing the implementation of theses resources by liasing with each of Symyx*s designated BU post sales support teams within the life science market.
Responsibilities Include:
* Target/develop business opportunities within the Tier 1 assigned life science companies in specified territory.
o Focus will be primarily on promoting, selling, and managing implementations of Symyx Software, Tools and Research Services
o Customer-Centric selling:
+ Provide input to the Strategic Account Manager (SAM) related to strategic account plans for key/targeted accounts by identifying key individuals, initiatives and actions to deliver solution.
+ Supporting the SAM Manager in identifying projects, indviduals, and key influencers in the organization in support of Symyx Sales and Post-Sales support activities.
+ Identify and work with various BU players involved in the decision to support proposal justification and submission (from researchers in the lab to senior executives).
+ Relationship Management * focus is on technical and end user relationships to ensure successful implementations of Symyx products and encouragement of follow-on sales activities/opportunities within assigned accounts.
+ Develop and manage effective technical professional relationships with prospective clients
+ Support the SAM account goals by articulating the value proposition at multiple levels targeted to the differing needs of technical business leaders, IT and end users.
+ Work closely with the pre-sales team to map out the customer workflow and current operations to quantify the impact of Symyx solution in the form of a business case justification.
* Lead project teams working closely with the various remote/regional support resources in Symyx Tools, Symyx Research Services and Symyx Software
* Manage Software/Workflow Pilots or proof of concept evaluations
o As part of the sales process, the SAM is responsible for successful execution of Pilots conducted around use cases at the customer site or at Symyx Labs
o Work with the Symyx Tools, Research, and Software teams to ensure successful planning, initiation and execution of Pilots or similar initiatives
* Develop/maintain in-depth knowledge of Symyx products and services and their practical application to operating challenges faced by organizations and customers on a day-to-day basis
* Gather and synthesize market feedback on product performance, industry trends, competitive products and strategies
* Maintain and disseminate knowledge of industry best practices related to products and services
Requirements:
* The ideal candidate would be an experienced technical sales/business development leader who enjoys developing accounts and seeing products implemented successfully at his/her assigned accounts. The candidate must express a strong desire to win and leverage their interpersonal, business and technical experience applied to customer-centric selling in an emerging market.
* Understanding of the life sciences market (discovery, process, pre-clinical)
* 5+ years prior experience as a technical senior sales or implementation manager supporting the life sciences market
* Ability to work independently and within a team environment
* Work remotely from home office
* Ideal location is mid-Atlantic area
* Travel approximately 60%
Education:
An undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Science or an allied technical discipline is required. An advanced technical degree would be strongly preferred as would be a Master's of Business Administration degree.
