Sr Systems Architecture Manager
Job Summary
Primary Role
The Enterprise Sr. Systems Architecture Manager will establish and lead the Portal & Content Management COE (Center of Expertise) function within company. The COE will collect and strengthen corporate knowledge of PCM tools, capabilities, methodologies and best practices. In collaboration and alignment with other functions like Enterprise Architecture, IS Business Partners and IS Shared Services, he/she will successfully set Client's strategic PCM technology direction.
The Senior Manager will drive awareness, select tools, and evangelize the use of PCM. He/She will also be responsible for managing the evolution of global PCM capabilities. He/She will manage a staff of professionals who will serve as Subject Matter Experts in PCM technologies and capabilities.
The Senior Manager will own the PCM technology roadmap, tool set and services of the PCM COE. The roadmap will contain plans for PCM governance, methodologies and best practices as new capabilities are built out.
The Senior Manager will provide expertise into the design, development, integration, implementation and ongoing support of all PCM activities throughout the company. His/her accountability will include ensuring the integrity of the PCM architecture
This individual must be capable of interfacing with all levels of the organization to achieve success.
Essential Functions
30% Provide strategic leadership and subject matter expertise to the Enterprise in the planning, development, delivery, and coordination of PCM activities that evolve PCM landscape. Ensure alignment to business strategy and overall IS Strategy.
20% Establishment and management of PCM COE function and approach in collaboration with IS Business Partners, IS Shared Services, Content Contributors and responsible Business Management. Define services, metrics and measurement against KPIs/CSFs/SLAs.
20% Work closely with Project Managers to scope, estimate and prioritize the logical sequence of their projects ensuring the project delivers desired outcomes while not compromising the architectural integrity of the PCM environment. Consultation during the selection of external service providers. Ensure appropriate training and awareness programs are in place for IS community so they are knowledgeable in the application of PCM capabilities to their stakeholders* needs.
10% Establishment of and responsibility for the PCM governance processes, standards and guidelines that balance the needs of the enterprise with the needs of the project teams. Provide guidance to IS project teams to ensure that IS projects are implemented in a compliant manner to a consistent methodology. Commitment to and compliance to information security and privacy policies and respective regulations.
10% Manage Corporate PCM Infrastructure Projects. Selection and commercial management of external service providers, including performance measurements against approved metrics and financial management aligned to approved budgets.
5% Keep abreast of technology trends in the market and evaluate for potential value to company.
5% Build, develop and manage a small team that is high performing; flexible and customer focused. Successful collaboration with IS Business Partner, IS Shared Services including Client*s outsourced IS Infrastructure provider, Content Contributors and responsible Business Management.
Education & Experience Requirements
Minimum 10 years IS experience within industry or service/consulting sectors with at least 3 of these years in a Senior role with Line Management responsibilities, preferably in a highly matrixed organization.
Minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining PCM solutions, ideally within a fast moving pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with Microsoft SharePoint and .NET technologies and integration with Microsoft Active Directory (AD)
Certification in WSS (Windows SharePoint Services 3.0) and MOSS (Microsoft Office SharePoint Server) a plus
A Bachelor*s degree is required in Information Technology or related field
Experience in technical implementation and the ability to manage the technical aspects of the company*s PCM tool set installation and roll out
Demonstrated knowledge in the key functions of a COE
Strong Knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle.
Key Skills and Competencies
Methodologies. Experience with developing and maintaining methodologies, including the ability to create awareness and implement new methodologies in a diverse environment.
SharePoint and Tooling. The Senior Manager must be knowledgeable in SharePoint MOSS architecture, services, portal, content management, search, templates, etc. This individual should understand the pros and cons of various commercially available tools and integration with SharePoint.
Technology. Understanding of key technologies, .Net, SharePoint, Web Services, SOA, Business Intelligence, Information Management, Knowledge Management, Integration, Data Management, Portals. Solid understanding of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) product and Windows SharePoint Services technology platform.
Team Building. Capable of building a core team, and focusing their work on improving collaboration across the Client global environment.
Process Implementation. Must drive the documentation of minimal process to support collaboration, including the effective governance of those processes. Understands the impact of process and tools over time & insures adequate governance, controls and metrics to support that process in the future.
Organizational Impacts. Understands the impact of organizational boundaries on the flow of information through the company. The Senior Manager must be capable of advising senior level executives on the impact of organizational structure on collaboration.
Budget and Supervisory. Manages successfully to budget, Proposes and justifies capital expenditure. Submits all needed budgetary information on a timely basis.
Metrics. Assesses current collaboration performance and creates non-intrusive metrics for defining and monitoring collaboration. Creates intuitive reports based on these metrics for executives and management.
Human Capital. Defines supervisory practices for effective knowledge management with the goal of inclusion in HR process and performance evaluation.
Training. Drive effective training programs and implementation activities across IS. Must include follow on training to institutionalize process change.
Global Reach. Effectively contributes in a global and diverse environment. Contributes to success by insuring collaboration and knowledge transfer across geographical and functional boundaries.
Customer Service. Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; Responds promptly to customer needs; Solicits customer feedback to improve service; Responds to requests for service and assistance; Meets promised commitments and set expectations.
