Position Description:We are currently seeking a Senior Staff Packaging Engineer.JOB PURPOSE: Design and validate distribution packaging for flexible and rigid pharmaceutical IV containers. Support product development by conducting laboratory packaging tests. Identify and implement cost savings opportunities related to packaging materials. Align internal component/material specifications with external supplier specifications. Provide engineering support for a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Provide effective project management and leadership.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Preparation of specifications and protocols for the development, testing and qualification of equipment, processes and product packaging.Research, develop and prepare specifications for improvements to existing and/or new products, processes, equipment, and technology related to packaging.Support projects by contributing to the development of project schedules, teams, tracking costs, preparing status reports, conducting team meetings, and communicating issues and progress to management.Prepare RCI’s including project description, schedule and costs.Supervise and direct contract personnel and outside vendors in the performance of contracted services.Provide leadership and guidance to subordinates within the Engineering organization.Supervise daily activities of all levels of Engineering Aides.Provide direction and technical decision making for management involving capital asset purchases and expenses for projects and/or strategic activities involving up to $5MM (capital/expense/revenue potentials).Moderate degree of both internal and external personnel interfaces.Communicate both verbally and written, project activities to supervisor.Prepare and present technical investigative reports to middle level managementQUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES: REQUIRED: BS degree with at least 6-7 years experience in an Engineering position; 3-5 years in a Packaging Engineer role.DESIRABLE: BS degree in Engineering (Packaging preferred) with at least five years experience in a Pharmaceutical or Medical Device/Engineering position. Experience in packaging development, packaging materials, and packaging test standards desirable. KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated knowledge within a specialty(s) area that includes: working with ASTM and ISTA packaging test standards, the operation of packaging test equipment (vibration table, case dropper, etc.), understanding of basic statistics and its application in Engineering; cGMP’s; software packages, such as project management, spreadsheets, word processing, 3D CAD; Tops, Cape, plastic processing; validation techniques; automation and a strong understanding of manufacturing methods.SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Use of computer and peripherals; communication skills, both verbal and written, commensurate with dealings at the middle management level; preparation of RCIs; ability to work with vendors to develop work schedules and tasks; project management skills needed to run small to medium size projects; ability to work independently, as a team member and/or team leader; ability to analyze, investigate and propose approaches to technical issues; leadership; team management skills and excellent problem-solving ability.
