SAIC-Frederick, Inc., the operations and technical support contractor for the NCI-Frederick, has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Nurse Practitioner.  Provides direct support to clinical research being conducted by the NCI's Molecular Imaging Program's (MIP) newly established Research Imaging Clinic. This position is located at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. Work is performed in conjunction with a multidisciplinary clinical team providing comprehensive health care to patients in a research environment. Provides medical evaluation for subjects in clinical trials in collaboration with the PI and other members of the research imaging team. Performs comprehensive health care assessments by obtaining medical histories and performing physical examinations. Diagnoses and manages common acute or stable chronic health problems, injuries, and illnesses making  assessments of acute and non-acute clinical problems and toxicities. Orders, performs and interprets basic laboratory diagnostic/treatment tests and procedures. Assesses needs and/or problem areas and plans appropriate therapeutic measures. Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings and determines which findings need further evaluation and/or collaboration assessment. Screens and monitors medical status of patient subjects participating in research studies and/or protocols. Monitors and evaluates health effects related to new/ongoing protocol studies. Provides ICU emergency care services, as needed related to injury and/or illness. Develops written protocols for management of illnesses and injuries in conjunction with either/or the consulting and referring physician. Monitors and grades side effects related to a variety of study interventions, including drugs and psychological behaviors. Demonstrates expertise in related healthcare, individual initiative, and independent judgment. Counsels, supports, and educates patients and staff on matters relating to health and research studies/protocols. Participates in clinical rounds and in meetings/conferences relating to study protocols and research. Prepares progress notes and dictation summary documentation. Precepts graduate nurse practitioner students from accredited university programs. Maintains clinical competence in an area of specialty practice integrating the art and science of both nursing and medicine into practice.  Ensures compliance with applicable licensure/certification requirements, applicable healthcare standards, governmental laws and regulations as well as policies, procedures and philosophy in nature. May provide clinical supervision of lower level clinical staff. REQUIRED SKILLS:  Graduate from a National League of Nursing accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in Nursing and a Masters Degree in public health, occupational health or community health nursing, or other appropriate nursing specialty. Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program from an accredited college or university nursing program. Possession of a current registered nurse license and a certificate as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland issued by the Maryland State Board of Nurse Examiners. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.  In addition to the education requirement, three (3) years of full-time equivalent post licensure experience as a registered nurse and 3-5 years of progressively more complex nurse practitioner experience and responsibilities.  Also ICU emergent care experience is required for this position. Performs comprehensive health assessments, interprets laboratory tests, diagnoses medical conditions, initiates therapeutic measures, responds to medical emergencies, demonstrates proficiency as a health care provider in primary/occupational health care, counsels employees on health related matters, and effectively communicates orally and in writing. Possesses knowledge of relationships between diseases, health assessment, counseling, diagnostic testing procedures, broad base clinical areas such as pathophysiology, psychosocial theory, pharmacology, and primary medical management practices.
