Sr. Mechanical Engineer

ABIOMED is seeking an experienced Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering group.  This individual will provide mechanical engineering expertise to develop and maintain a family of cardiac assist devices.
 
Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Lead mechanical engineering efforts (design & analysis) for the development of cardiac assist devices with a primary focus on disposable devices such as intra-aortic balloons, introducer sheaths, guide wires and blood pumps.Help set design goals and specifications for product development efforts Coordinate prototyping efforts with manufacturing and suppliers Support released product and resolve field issues with Quality Engineering Provide status updates to Program Managers as requiredDefine strategy for design and manufacturing efforts Provide Material Review Board supportMentor junior Mechanical Engineers

Job Qualifications: BS or advanced degree (preferred) in mechanical engineering 5+ years product development experience (medical device industry preferred) Hands on mechanical and electromechanical design and analysis experience of plastic and elastomer components, rotating mechanisms, pumps and compressorsExperience conducting structural finite elements analyses Proficient in Pro/ENGINEER Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing Must be able to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and/or written) within a program team and throughout the companyPossess a working knowledge of FDA's Quality Systems Regulations (QSR) and practical application through design control, SOP's, verification, and validation testingFamiliarity with medical device standards and CE mark requirements for international use (including shock/vibration, shipping/transport. and environmental requirements) Experience teaming with external firms and suppliers (design & contract manufacturers) Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma experience a plus
