The Senior Product Applications Specialist is responsible for supporting a specific group of AB applications and products. The primary focus of this position is to engage in pre-sales activities with potential customers, develop LCMS methods for specific applications to be used globally, travel to customer labs to implement LCMS methods, provide post-sales training to customers and to provide second tier support for other application support functions. Responsibilities include: 1) supporting pre-sales efforts by running customer sample sets and conducting demonstrations of AB products and providing technical information to potential customers; 2) participating as a lecturer and in-lab trainer for in customer training courses on AB mass spectrometry products; 3) generating technical content and application development in fulfillment of product marketing literature; 4) coordinating with the appropriate Product Group, the Internal Training Department, and Sales organizations. Job Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities - Support Field Application Specialists and Technical support functions by developing complete LCMS methods for specific applications in the industry - Perform pre-sales technical support by providing product demonstrations and technical information on AB mass spectrometry products and applications - Supports in-house customer training classes demonstrating operation of AB mass spectrometers and applications - Generates data to support marketing literature on AB mass spectrometry products - Presenting at scientific conferences, customer sites and AB sponsored events Secondary Responsibilities - Complete all written reports and follow up on customer interactions/troubleshooting - Maintains technical competency on AB products through hands-on experience, reading and attendance at trade shows and training meetings Required Interactions - Sales - Service - Technical Support - Field Applications - Technical Training - Technical Writing - Marketing - R & D - IT Customer Resources - Customers - Vendors
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities (SKAs) Job Skills - Strong technical and significant laboratory and/or scientific background - Solid writing skills to write reports, training and procedural materials - Solid organization skills and ability to set priorities and manage time effectively - Effective communication skills to clearly articulate technical and product information to both internal and external customers - Strong presentation and troubleshooting skills Job Knowledge - Thorough expertise in all facets of technical and scientific support - Thorough knowledge of Applied Biosystems' products, applications and services - In-depth understanding of customer business, goals and objectives, strategies, and needs - Understanding of customer decision making process and key decision makers and influencers - Knowledge of presentations software, computer database systems, and knowledge management systems Additional Job Abilities: - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations - Requires the ability to perform independently and as part of a team - Must be able to travel within assigned geography - Ability to instill customer satisfaction that is recognizable and valuable to the customer
