Senior Systems Specialist - HTS, Compound Management
Responsibilities:We have an opening for a talented Senior Systems Specialist to join our Early Leads group. The successful candidate will be working closely with members of the biochemical pharmacology group and the Early Leads groups to build software bridges, write code for software instrumentation drivers and produce interfaces with a variety of software and hardware peripherals. The candidate will work in a multi-discipline and collaborative environment to provide solutions to issues in electronics, motion control units, software and material management. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for these activities for a newly acquired ultra high throughput screening (uHTS) and compound management system from RTS. The uHTS and compound management system has recently been installed and will screen validated targets and store compounds in the growing small molecule drug discovery program in our South San Francisco location. The individual will code and troubleshoot solutions in C# in concert with the vendor RTS. The individual also will troubleshoot robotic equipment and perform routine precision and accuracy determinations in concert with the chemists, biologists and the other system specialists to achieve the highest level of reliability and precision. The candidate will use their skills in real time control and embedded programming to determine and validate operational methods for use in the automated laboratory. This position will contribute to the evolution of all automated systems and must have the ability to grasp new concepts quickly. The candidate will also contribute to and support projects to build automation and other infrastructure systems for the small molecule drug discovery program in the areas of chemistry, protein production and sample management. He/she will be the main contact for the Early Leads group with the Chemical Informatics group. This individual will be asked to code methods to format and transfer reader data files to accommodate the database format. Close collaboration with the assay group, medicinal chemists and other members of the small molecule drug discovery program will be essential for success. Requirements:A Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred with a minimum of eight years of industry experience in modifying, running and maintaining Biotech automated equipment. The candidate shall have excellent mechanical aptitude, electronics experience, able to evaluate wiring diagrams, able to perform mechanical design analysis and have CAD proficiency. This individual will have experience integrating HTS work stations with robotic automated systems; and will have excellent programming skills in VB, C++, Sprint and C# with additional experience in programming automated systems utilizing any of the following: scripts, visual basic, C#, C++ and/or various types of scheduling software for automated systems. Knowledge of basic scientific principles, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills are also required.
