This position requires a highly motivated immunologist with expertise in T cell biology, with particular emphasis on T helper cell cytokine biology and knowledge of CD8+ T cell and regulatory (Treg) T cell biology. The primary responsibilities for this position are to provide scientific expertise and leadership in the area of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and to characterize T cell-related drug candidates to support clinical development. This candidate will be involved in target identification and validation, lead discovery and optimization, and disease pathway elucidation by providing experimental and scientific support. The candidate must have a good understanding of the clinical and pathological manifestations of immune-mediated diseases as well as the appropriate bioassays, animal models and translational systems that can be applied toward the development of therapeutic compounds. The successful candidate will be expected to lead and participate on multi-functional research teams and will also participate on compound development teams; therefore, experience in progressing therapeutic compounds into clinical development and knowledge of the drug development process is desired. The candidate must have a current knowledge of the scientific literature and strong inter-personal and communication skills. This individual will be encouraged to publish and maintain constructive contacts within the internal and external scientific communities. In addition, this candidate must have experience managing direct reports and will be responsible for the career development of the scientists within his/her group.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:· Design and implement strategies to support discovery of new targets and development of new drug candidates.· Development, validation and application of in-vitro bioassays to characterize drug targets and drug leads.· Design studies to understand pathways in autoimmune or inflammatory diseases, both in animal models and translational assays.· Lead/participate on highly-matrixed research teams to progress drug candidates to clinical development; participate on compound development teams.· Supervise and/or mentor junior scientists· Well-organized and multitasking.· Maintain and develop professional expertise through scientific literature· Participate, as appropriate, in the external scientific community through publications and seminars· Serve as in-house consultant The Senior Research Scientist requires a PhD with at least 2 years of prior research experience. It is required that the Senior Research Scientist have prior T cell biology experience, with prior pharmaceutical, and/or biotechnology experience preferred.
