Description



The PD Senior Scientist is responsible for the development of methods for the production, purification, fermentation and testing of new client process formulas, technologies and client products. This position will be responsible for the oversight of client product scaleup, purification, process optimization, technology transfer and process validation projects. Incumbents will contribute to projects within their scientific discipline utilizing professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve a wide range of complex problems in creative and effective ways.

ResponsibilitiesDesign new process formulas for the production and improvement of therapeutic products and vaccines with an emphasis on improving product quality and cost effectiveness. Sustain highly productive independent research and exercise independent judgment in developing methods and procedures. Plan and execute all tasks required to achieve goals on time and within budget. Define and apply innovative approaches and methods. Make major intellectual contributions to the scientific direction of the group and act in a leadership capacity for junior staff. May supervise activities and be requested to provide management with technical evaluations of junior staff. Identify broad objective for projects and independently develop project proposals. May act as advisor to senior management and assist with the professional development and efforts of the process development group.  Maintain all notebooks and documentation of work in accordance with Department standards and/or project requirements; ensure junior staff notebooks and documentation are in compliance with Department standards and/or project requirements. Present technical scope and results to clients. Maintain state of the art technical skills and knowledge. Use scientific literature and networking effectively to assistance with projects. Integrate multiple areas of work into the overall project plan with a considerable knowledge both in area of expertise and other technical disciplines of the organization. Engage in highquality science demonstrated by patents, publications or successful completion of projects. Work on extremely complex problems that have scientific risk and require an evaluation/analysis of intangible variables. Perform effectively on Project Teams and maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with various members of the team, as well as other staff members inside and outside of the department.~cb~Required Skills



 Required Experience



Required ExperienceMS in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or related science and a minimum of 10 years industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of science and methods outside of area of discipline. Proficient in MS Office. Proficient written and verbal communications skills. Ability to work directly with client representatives and to make oral presentations to clients and upper management. Ability to work well within project teams and ability to establish good working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and various departments at Lonza. Sound and timely decision making based on a mixture of analysis, experience and judgment. Organized and energetic self-starter. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining quality.
