What R & D Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health
Research and Development Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing new products through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering and documentation practices.

Proactively develops and maintains technical knowledge in specialized area(s), remaining up-to-date on current trends and best practices;
Accountabilities in this roleResponsible for designing new products, planning and implementing research and development prototyping activities, and conducting all required cGMP validations leading to full scale manufacturing operations.Sourcing, developing and qualifying device component materials with new suppliers.Designing, developing and validating new manufacturing equipment, overseeing equipment fabrication for new products and projects.Installing and validating equipment and materials for new operations, as well as for changes on current products and processes.Extensive use of Design of Experiments and Statistical Analysis to champion data-driven decision-making.Preparing engineering cost estimates and project budgets. Conducting preliminary and comprehensive financial analyses for projects.Responsible for comprehensive documentation upkeep and maintenance (engineering tests, validation protocols, factbooks/design history file, etc) to assure CFR & cGMP compliance.Effectively coordinate and expedite new projects with other departments.Assure R&D Product Development compliance to GMP’s.Will act as a mentor to Junior Engineers & Technologists.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials Science, Chemical, Etc.) required, advanced degree in technical discipline strongly preferred Experience in project management and medical device and/or pharmaceutical Product Development required, pharmaceutical formulation experience strongly preferredA minimum of 2+ years related work experience required; a minimum of 5 years industrial experience in a cGMP or an ISO9001 environmentAbility to work independently with strong organization, interpersonal, and team building/mentoring skillsMust be a strategic thinker with the ability to independently promote the development of new projects, products or studiesMust have excellent communication skills (both verbal & written), and the ability to effectively describe technical situations and developments
Experience in plastics & metals materials and fabrication processes for medical devices
Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Project & PowerPoint) required
Design of Experiments and Statistical Analysis software fluency (including Minitab) required
Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc.) required
Inventorship of issued patents and/or patent applications highly preferred
Experience in machine design and modifications preferred
Experience in working with contract laboratories to support product development activities preferred
Knowledge of Chemistry and/or Material Science and Surgical Operating Room procedures desirable
Experience with experimental data collection and analysis, or regulatory documentation preparation
Experience with the use of Oracle MRP system preferred
Database management software skills and understanding of operating system and network requirements is desirable
