Senior Biotech Paralegal
Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox P.L.L.C., a premier Washington, D.C. law firm specializing in the protection, transfer and enforcement of Intellectual Property rights, is seeking a Senior Biotech Paralegal for our growing office! Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 2 years Paralegal/Legal Assistant experience, preferably in an IP environment, and 1 year in a supervisory role. Duties:
· Coordination of training of Legal Assistants and monitoring skill development to ensure progress.
· Assist with creating and maintaining a stimulating and productive environment with high morale for the Legal Assistants in the Biotech Group.
· Assist with screening resumes and coordinating interviews of candidates.
· Daily supervision, feedback and input regarding Biotech Group Legal Assistant performance.
· Review and approve timecards and leave requests for Biotech Group Legal Assistants.
· Prepare Information Disclosure Statements for signature by attorneys or student associates, for filing in the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. This project involves review of patent applications and all related applications (domestic and foreign) for pertinent references, ordering and retrieving pertinent reference materials, reviewing references for relevance, citing references on PTO form 1449, and preparing PTO pleadings.
· For patent applications that contain amino acid and nucleotide sequences, prepare and proof Sequence Listings for filing at the PTO. Enter the amino acid and nucleotide sequences into the program PatentIn which puts the sequences into proper format. Prepare the PTO pleading which accompanies the Sequence.
· Assist with prosecution as part of a client team.
· Assist with prosecution of foreign patent applications by preparing letters of instructions to foreign patent lawyers and by performing clerical duties as necessary, i.e. copying, faxing, and mailing etc.
· Organize reissue, re-examination, protest and interference litigation files as necessary. Create and maintain litigation files, digest depositions, organize exhibits, prepare simple pleadings and litigation documents, and otherwise provide litigation/interference support as necessary.
· Research and prepare written reports to the Biotech practice group as necessary.
Requirements: Must have at least one year of experience managing or coordinating Legal Assistants. Detail oriented with excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal. Paralegal certificate or experience preferred. Patent experience required. Undergraduate degree required. Strong academic credentials required. Degree in Biology, Chemistry, BioChemistry or related scientific discipline required.
Salary: $60,000-$70,000/year; Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
