Responsible for the design, implementation, start-up and troubleshooting of automation and plant floor related systems that monitor and control facilities, utilities, and manufacturing processes, instrumentation, equipment, electrical power and business enterprise systems from laboratory through manufacturing scale. Serves as an interface between engineering, facilities, process teams, information systems, quality assurance, validation and operations. Provides expertise in leading automation and business systems design, troubleshooting, testing, validation, deployment and on-going maintenance. Provides support to mfg. and facilities areas including the following activities:· Automation systems day-to day maintenance and troubleshooting to support deviations, corrective/preventative actions and other quality issues. Systems included are process and facilities automation (proprietary systems, PLC, DCS, DDC, BMS and SCADA) and related plant floor enterprise systems (Weigh Dispense, eBR, eWI, Calibration, Maintenance, Historians, Databases, OPC, Asset Managers, Simulation Software and Process Information Mgmt.)· Tracking and evaluating control system trends or issues in collaboration with quality, mfg., engineering and manufacturing.· Coordinating fabrication, procurement, installation, engineering start-up, and validation activities of new systems, as well as documentation of IQ/OQ protocols, test executions, and summary reports.· Participating in the development and implementation of procedural or automation improvement changes to support Operational Excellence/Lean Sigma.· Participating in project, application, network, interoperability or system design reviews and/or status meetings with depts. and management. This may include design and NFPA hazard reviews of tasks, projects, plant expansions or other changes. · Point person for select process improvement and start-up activities involving automation and plant floor related business systems. Interface with internal customers to discuss their automation needs, scope out new projects, oversee internal system training, service level agreements, issues / severity escalation, and final project acceptance.· Project tasks may include performing or overseeing I/O checkout, creating/updating controls documentation, Single Line Diagrams, P&IDs, Data flow diagrams and PFDs, electrical schematics/diagrams, authoring, specifications, user or functional requirements specifications, as well as FAT and SAT protocols.· Initiating project(s) and tracking spending of budgets, creating scope of work, risk assessments, justification, cost estimates, implementing purchase orders, contracts, funding requests, and managing cashflow.· Coordinating w/ vendors and system integrators in the programming and start-up of the skid mounted or enterprise control or plant floor related business systems.· Occasional supervision of contractor or intern reports including mentoring, performance reviews, project and support advice as well as troubleshooting for the more complicated issues found in the manufacturing environment.· Medium to large scale pharmaceutical or biotechnology process, automation and systems experience preferred. · Strong knowledge of cGMPs, GAMP, NFPA and NEC Compliance and FDA and EMEA Regulatory requirements is essential.· Strong knowledge or experience with the following areas:o Electrical systems (120 VAC, 24 VDC, 480 VAC)o Instrument and Control Device operation and troubleshootingo Programmable Logic Controllers (Allen Bradley ControlLogix)o Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition Systems (Rockwell RS View SE and GE Fanuc Profecy)o Variable Speed Drives (Allen Bradley PowerFlex)o Support of validation of GMP or GxP systems· Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, MS Powerpoint, MS Visio, AutoCAD, and related software.· Normally receives no instructions on routine work, general instructions on new assignments, along with ability to lead / coordinate complex projects.· Demonstrated experience working in a high-paced team-oriented environment and success with complex task or project issues resolution.· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.· Demonstrated proficiency of all technical requirements.Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering or related discipline.
