Centocor Research and Development, develops innovative biomedicines. This is a Senior Associate Scientist position that will support the development of biologics for the treatment of cancer. The candidate will collaborate with other members of the department to drive projects forward. This candidate will be involved in evaluation of in vitro and in vivo mechanisms of action of cancer therapeutics, and relevant biomarkers of efficacy and safety. The essential functions of the Senior Associate include, but are not limited to: participating in tumor molecular biology related projects that involve gene expression and regulation, biomarker identification and biomarker assay development with an ultimate goal of developing antibody therapeutics; keeping informed of recent advances in the area of tumor biology and the state-of-the-art technologies through literature reviews; designing the experiment and analysis of data from tumor models for in vivo studies; conducting mechanism of action studies to support development of therapeutics in Oncology; conducting cell-based assays to analyze the bioactivity of antibodies. Other responsibilities of the Senior Associate Scientist include: maintaining record of studies in the form of notebooks, technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses; contributing to the preparation and submission of invention disclosures, patent applications to secure intellectual property; contributing or writing technical reports, preparing and presenting posters at National and International meetings and contributing to preparation and submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals; participating on multidisciplinary teams for the discovery and preclinical development of oncology therapeutics and teaching newly developed assays to co-workers and collaborate with other groups within Centocor to expedite product development. The successful candidate will have a B.S. or equivalent with at least 8 years of laboratory experience or an M.S. with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Tumor Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related field. Prior industry experience is desirable. Experience with cell-based assays, working with mammalian tissue culture, Western and FACS analysis as well as Molecular Biology Techniques is required. Previous experience in Oncology research, in vivo models, signal transduction and biomarkers is also required. The candidate must have expertise in cell biology or molecular biology. Experience with specific molecular biology techniques such as, protein phosphorylation, flow cytometry or cell-based assays techniques desired. Expertise in signal transduction and mechanism of action studies is preferred. The Senior Associate Scientist must have strong oral and written skills.
