Senior Applications Architect/Engineer

Responsibilities:Genentech's Research and Corporate IT groups seek an exceptionally talented and motivated Senior Applications Architect/Engineer to take a leading role in designing and implementing Research's application architecture. This role will be to work with a diverse team of scientists and IT staff to identify, deploy, maintain and integrate solutions appropriate for Research's bioinformatics, structural biology, cheminformatics and biomedical imaging needs that are consistent with our enterprise-wide standards. In addition to providing for these immediate needs, the candidate will be encouraged to propose cutting edge computing solutions to ensure that Research stays at the forefront of available technology and maximizes the usefulness of its data. This exciting position will provide the opportunity to employ diverse design, coding, system administration, communication and project management skills. Requirements:Experience with high-performance scientific computing, particularly Linux clusters and queuing systems is required. A background in chemical informatics, computational chemistry, bioinformatics or similar area is desirable. This individual must have strong Java and Perl skills. Strong database skills are required; Oracle and PostgreSQL experience is preferred. The incumbent must have strong computing hardware skills, including experience with SAN and NAS systems, client-server methodologies, service and hardware monitoring and networking. Web application development skills, including HTML, CSS, Ajax, JSP and CGI, are essential. Experience with Apache, WebLogic and Tomcat is desirable. Experience with authentication and authorization using Kerberos, SSH, LDAP and AD is required. Exceptional written and verbal communication, organizational and prioritization skills are imperative. This individual must be detail-oriented, methodical, conscientious, diligent and analytical. This position requires native *nix speaker; Think U++++.
