Senior Analytical Scientist
Occupation: Biotech/R&D/Science Description: Pacific Biosciences is seeking a Senior Analytical Scientist. The individual will be a member of the Process Development Group and will be responsible for identifying and developing Analytical Methodologies to be used in R&D, Product Development and Manufacturing. Our products are enabled by a broad range of scientific disciplines. The individual will need to rapidly develop accurate and cost effective analytical tools for Chemical Formulations, Organic Synthesis and Proteins. Some of the methodologies to be applied are FTIR, UV/Vis Spectroscopy, Fluorometry, FCS, Conductivity, Titrations, HPLC, NMR, LC-MS, Electrophoresis and Enzyme activity. Due to the broad spectrum of technologies, prior experience in other analytical techniques in materials and surface metrology such as Ellipsometry, SEM, TLA, XPS, SIMS, TIRF, FIB-TEMS, TDS are beneficial. Responsibilities: • Source various analytical tools to answer a specific product question. • Develop analytical protocols based on the performance requirements of the component to be analyzed. • Perform the analysis and/or work with the Researcher to perform the analysis. Collect and analyze the results with the correct interpretations. • Document developed methods as a standard protocol and transfer to other groups. • Install, Qualify and Train colleagues on equipment and methodologies. • Work with outside analytical groups to perform the analysis. Position Requirements:• M.S. and/or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related scientific discipline. • Five plus years of demonstrated methods development experience in medical device, pharmaceutical or biotech settings. • Experienced developing methods using analytical tools, such as FTIR, UV/Vis Spectroscopy, Fluorometry, FCS, Conductivity, Titrations, HPLC, NMR, LC-MS, Electrophoresis and Enzyme activity. • Prior experience in developing an in-depth understanding of the product application and requirements and applying the appropriate methodology to measure the key parameters. • Prior experience in creating a test strategy such that the probability of a defect passing onto the user is extremely low. • Excellent documentation and training skills in transferring the developed techniques to the final user. • Experience in DOE and statistical analysis of results for relevancy. • Works well with others in getting the analysis performed and drawing the correct conclusions. • Effective team work and effective verbal and written communication skills. Actively seeks out areas in the organization needing support in developing these tools. • High level of initiative, innovation, observation and foresight. • Prior understanding of how quality, processes and specifications relate to product performance.
