Senior Accounting Manager

Responsibilities:Genentech's Product Operations (PROP) Finance group is seeking an experienced Accounting professional to provide consultation on all accounting policy-related matters for PROP Finance. In addition, this role will manage all internal and external financial audit activity for PROP. The role will report to the Associate Director, PROP Accounting. The Senior Accounting Manager will apply advanced theoretical knowledge of GAAP to develop, maintain and enhance all operations-related accounting policies. This includes support of policy development related to collaborations with third parties (e.g. contract manufacturing). This individual will understand PROP objectives, strategies and processes and influence policy development in other areas that affect product operations (e.g. revenue recognition, inter-company transfer pricing, corporate entity consolidation). The incumbent will provide proactive and continuous communication to PROP Finance and Accounting management on key issues and trends in operations-related accounting rules or standards. This position will review cost accounting system design (SAP) and planned changes to ensure compliance with accounting policies and GAAP; and support internal business partners to define solutions to close any gaps identified. He/she will manage all internal and external financial audit activity. This includes coordination of audit reviews, collection of materials to support audits and definition of documentary standards for internal customers. This position will lead efforts to define requirements for new reports and tools to streamline/automate information delivery needed to meet internal controls and audit requirements. Requirements:This individual should have a demonstrated track record of success in coordinating activities across various groups, managing internal controls and/or audit processes, and building strong collaborative relationships with both internal and external business partners. A Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting and a CPA is required. The candidate must have a minimum of 10-12 years of accounting experience with increasing scope of responsibilities. “Big 4â€� audit / accounting experience is desired. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. The incumbent must have the ability to use independent judgment and influence cross-functionally and across management levels; and possess strong interpersonal skills. Experience working with product costing/manufacturing is required; pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience is a plus. Strong systems skills are required.
