Scientist, Upstream Process Development

POSITION SUMMARY:

AERAS Global TB Vaccine Foundation is seeking an experienced Upstream Process Development Scientist to join the Process Development and Manufacturing Department to produce vaccines.  Primary objectives of the position are to develop cGMP fermentation procedures.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops high cell density, fed-batch processes for microbial and cell culture production systems. Performs fermentations for internal R&D activities. Performs all aspects of upstream process development including Media Prep, Inoculum Prep, Fermentation and Harvest activities, Buffer Prep, CIP, and SIP. Performs in-process assays to monitor process performance. Installs and maintains fermentation and recovery equipment. Uses DOE strategies to develop fermentation procedures for injectable therapeutics. Specifies, requisitions and maintains laboratory materials required for laboratory activities. Completes proper documentation of all work in laboratory notebooks and process development reports. Writes technology transfer reports and participates in technology transfer of upstream activities to domestic and international CMOs. Investigates new technologies for improving the Upstream process. Performs other duties as required.



QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelors Degree with greater than 7 years of experience or MS/PhD with 0-7 years of experience required. Experience using DOE strategies to develop fermentation procedures for injectable therapeutics. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills. Experience validating and manufacturing licensed human vaccines a plus.
