Scientist, Senior
This position will play a lead role in developing new multi-parameter tissue-based applications in the Discovery Group. Strong technical expertise in the quantitation of nucleic acids and proteins in tissues, including method development, antigen recovery, and trouble-shooting, is required. Experience in fluorescence microscopy is highly desired. Specific responsibilities include conducting research in line with the development of multiplexing technologies for Ventana's automated staining platforms. Individual will be expected to contribute both as an individual, and as part of a team. Duties include publication/presentation of findings, writing technical reports, data analysis, and the development of patent applications. Also expected is the development of productive relationships with external collaborators and with internal technical and marketing groups.
Responsible for initiating, directing and executing scientific research, development and manufacturing process strategies to support new and existing products. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. Plans and executes laboratory research. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories. Makes contributions to scientific literature and conferences. Serves as an in-house and outside consultant. May act as a spokesperson for corporate scientific affairs and advise top management. Participates in development of patent applications. Promotes and participates in the professional development of scientists and laboratory facilities. Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of product or process principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plans and executes laboratory research in the development of new tissue-based applications. Creates novel experimental protocols and provides critical quantitative evaluation of scientific data and interpretation of results.
Independently lead, organize, facilitate and analyze projects. Pursues and communicates objectives and planning options without supervision.
Participates in team efforts to define new products, and to identify technical challenges in product development.
Independently determines and develops scientific analysis and solutions. Recognizes and documents activities for publication and/or patent potential.
Presents and discusses data, presents alternative action plans (and consequences), and clearly communicates recommendations to any level of the organization.
Makes contributions to strategic directions for new product development.
Provides technical mentoring and expertise to technicians and Scientist level staff as required.
May perform other duties as required or assigned.
Monitors work to ensure quality, and continuously promotes Quality First Time
Education/Experience:
Ph.D. degree in Science with 2+ years or Master's degree with 5+ years relevant experience. May also include exceptional individuals without an advanced degree by approval.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience in fluorescence microscopy; requires extensive knowledge of quantitative methods, assay development and troubleshooting.
Demonstrated abilities in multi-parameter analyses.
Strong data evaluation skills.
Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to independently design, evaluate and analyze experimental protocols.
Ability to manage by and meet deadlines.
Ability to write technical reports supporting new reagents, probes or detection systems.
Ability to prepare and present information to internal and external groups.
