With a deep and broad pipeline of potential new medicines, we continue to advance science to serve patients.Amgen is seeking a talented Scientist for their Chemical Research and Development (CR&D) Medicinal Chemistry organization to work in their state-of-the-art facility in San Francisco, CA.The successful candidate will be part of an expanding CR&D Medicinal Chemistry group, with responsibilities including (but not limited to):- Conducting laboratory experiments- Designing and implementing scientific research projects- Planning detailed procedures for defined projects including timelines, milestones, methodological approaches, expected results and necessary resources- Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data and results- Providing regular updates, documentation, and/or communication on project results- Collaborating with other scientists and keeping current with field of expertise, including literature and technology development.Additional responsibilities may include:- Advising supervisors and colleagues in areas of expertise- Participating in national and international scientific meetings- Providing scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions- Monitoring and analyzing competitive scientific knowledge from external sources- Supervising research associates and laboratory assistants.As an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V, Amgen values and encourages diversity in the workplace.Basic Qualifications:- A Ph.D. in Chemistry specializing in organic synthesisPreferred Qualifications:- Proven track record of academic accomplishments (i.e., peer-reviewed publications and/or patents)- A clear understanding of structural determination using NMR and Mass Spectral techniques as well as knowledge of related purification methods- Depending on the extent of prior participation in drug discovery, the candidate is expected to possess an understanding of biological and pharmaceutical principles and a working knowledge of the use of structure-based or other computer-aided drug design tools- Some knowledge about the application of parallel synthesis techniques to medicinal chemistry would also be an asset- Ability to demonstrate a basic knowledge of good lab practices is essential- Excellent oral and written communication skills- Excellent presentation skills Amgen is the leading human therapeutics company in the biotechnology industry.
