Vertex's product pipeline is focused on viral diseases, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, cancer, pain and bacterial infection.The successful candidate will be responsible for independently developing and executing upon medium (to high) throughput receptor or biochemical enzyme assays to identify and characterize small molecule drug candidates. As part of an accomplished enzymology department you will be expected to contribute to our understanding of how small molecules interact with protein targets through mechanistic studies using cutting-edge technology. You will also be expected to participate in multidisciplinary drug discovery teams and contribute to applying innovative approaches to developing successful human therapeutics. Scientists who are excited by taking on challenging scientific projects in a team environment are encouraged to apply.QualificationsApplicants should have either a BS and 6+ years, MS and 3+ years, or PhD and 0-3 years postdoctoral or relevant employment experience. Expertise in designing, executing and troubleshooting assays for mechanistic studies to characterize the interaction of small molecules with protein targets (inhibition, antagonism, agonism; binding constants; substrate or ligand competition; time dependence, reversibility, etc.) is expected. The candidate should be familiar with fluorescence, luminescence and/or radiolabel detection methods and proficient in data analysis (curve fitting, statistics, etc). Experience with handling small molecule compounds, microplate assays and automated liquid handling and detection equipment is desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
