Research Associate - Biotherapeutics

Research Associate to participate in the development of upstream and downstream processes for production of a live viral vaccine destined to clinical testing. In addition, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to perform assays needed to characterize purified vaccine or vaccine production substrates. Such assays include virus plaque assays, PCR-based detection of target sequences, quantitative PCR, viral or cellular genomic characterization by sequencing, RFLP, hybridization, etc.  Experimental results will be documented in notebooks, communicated to other departments, and incorporated in detailed technical reports.

Bachelor’s Degree a life sciences discipline and 3+ years of research experience. Experience in virology (plaque assays, virus growth, and characterization), including virus or protein purification techniques is required.  Must have experience with laboratory-scale downstream processing hardware used for techniques such as micro-fluidization, tangential flow filtration, etc.  Experience in PCR techniques, molecular cloning, sequencing, RFLP, southern/northern blotting, and basic mammalian cell culture techniques also required.  Ability to work with Excel, Word, and other data analysis applications is required.  The successful candidate will be capable of preparing clear and intelligible reports in English, and also have the desire and ability to function in a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment.  Client will cover the cost of required vaccinations.
