Research Associate

Accountabilities have an immediate opening for a Research Associate to support pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, MA

 

Fundamental components of role:

1)  Optimize protein expression in E. coli and baculovirus expression systems

2)  Maintain cell lines, plasmids, and viruses

3)  Purify and characterize recombinant proteins

4)  Analyze and present experimental results

5)  Keep records of the work performed

6)  Work with scientists from various groups and contribute to the success of projects

7)  Handle multiple projects when needed

 

Education & Training Preferred:

MS in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field with minimal 2 years of lab experience or BS with minimal 5 years of lab experience

 

Prior Experience Preferred:

1)  Expertise in E. coli and baculovirus expression systems with various vectors

2)  Solid knowledge and skill base in protein purification and protein chemistry

3)  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

4)  Working in a team environment

 Technical Competencies

· Molecular biology, expertise and hands-on experience in recombinant DNA techniquesDNA sequence analysis with bioinformatics software such as Vector NTI and BLAST, etc. SDS-PAGE, UV-Vis, and Western blot, etc.· Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in protein expression in E. coli and baculovirus systems

· Ability to optimize protein expression conditions in E. coli and baculovirus systems

· Working independently to develop and/or implement new expression systemsHands-on experience in protein purification from E. coli and insect cell cultures

· Interest in learning and/or evaluating innovative purification schemes Behavioral Competencies -Working effectively in a team environmentSharing knowledge with colleagues and contributing to the success of projectsTimely and effective communication with colleagues and collaborators across disciplinesStrong trouble shooting and problem solving skills
