Research Assistant

Job Description We are seeking two laboratory technicians at the level of research assistant II or research specialist who will be responsible for large-scale protein production in insect and mammalian cells to support joint projects by a structural biology laboratory and an immunology laboratory. Duties and responsibilities

- Maintaining insect and mammalian cell lines;

- Scaling up insect cell cultures for protein expression;

- Generating and amplifying recombinant baculovirus stocks;

- Harvesting, concentrating insect cell supernatants;

- Purifying protein by various chromatographic techniques following established protocols;

- Testing expression constructs in mammalian cells (293T, CHO cells, etc.);

- Scaling up the expression in mammalian cells to produce protein in milligram quantities.

- Performing SDS-PAGE and western blots to monitor proteins at various stages of protein expression and purification;

- Maintaining inventory of cell culture supplies as well as contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and supplies. Required education, experience and skills

The candidates must have a bachelor's or a master’s degree in the biological sciences plus minimum of two years of post-graduate laboratory experiences in cell culture or protein expression and purification. Effective communication and organizational skills and ability to work in a team environment are necessary.
