Position Description:
The Regional Segment Manager, Applied Markets, North America-East role is to ensure achievement of segment-based sales objectives in line with the Company's mission. The Segment Management team is a group of specialized sales professionals that work in partnership with the broader sales force to develop promising emerging market segments in the genomics and life sciences arena. This position has overall responsibility for Illumina’s North America-East Applied Markets and Pharma business and involves a broad range of activities including/not limited to directing global Top Tier Pharma account strategies, identifying new service provider and drug development opportunities, leading sales strategies in emerging Applied Markets, and acting as trusted advisors on genomics applications in Pharma and Applied Markets. The successful candidate will partner closely with regional account and sales managers to drive Pharma- and Applied Markets-based sales activities through both strategic and tactical activities, provide regular reports on status of specific sales and competitor activities within Pharma and Applied Markets, and develop and drive internal initiatives to better address the genomics needs of the Pharma and Applied Markets customer. A unique opportunity to get involved at the ground floor of a newly-formed market-focused sales team at one of the life science industry’s fastest-growing companies.Job duties include but are not limited to:• Represents the company professionally, ethically and morally at all times.• Develops high value Pharma and Applied Markets customer accounts in North America-East, builds key relationships within industry, and works with the sales team to drive sales of Illumina platforms and reagents to the Pharma and Applied Market segments.• Develops and implements a full Business Plan for the North America-East Pharma and Applied Markets, including analysis of market segmentation, market sizing, and segment entry strategy recommendations. Provides manager with input for Global Pharma and Applied Markets Business Plans.• Works with Marketing to drive evolving needs of Pharma and Applied Markets, including products, pricing, and promotion.• Owns North-America-East Pharma and Applied Markets forecast. Provides regular and accurate sales forecast updates to management. • Spends 40-60% time in the field developing customer relationships. • Provides customer and technical presentations. • Provides training to generalist sales force in North America-East regarding Pharma and Applied Markets specific needs and applications. • Develops and maintains Pharma- and Applied Markets-focused sales presentations and other sales tools• Participates in Pharma- and Applied Markets-related genetic analysis sales within region and helps guide negotiations. Provides key technical sales support to local account and regional sales managers.• Works with other vendors to maximize and leverage sales opportunities.• Maintains an effective, professional working relationship with internal customers and product development groups.• Helps recommend, specify, and launch future Illumina products in Pharma and Applied Markets.• Assists in the design of marketing and promotional materials for the Pharma and Applied Markets genetic analysis business.• Help identify and recruit additional team members, as needed.• Assists, as time permits, with other business development activities.Qualifications:• MS degree and/or PhD in Life Sciences. • 3 to 5 years experience selling genomics technologies to Pharma and Applied Markets highly desired. Exposure to Pharma and Applied Markets through experience in Marketing, Business Development, or other commercial/revenue responsibility also considered. Established relationships with key thought leaders.• Strong technical background in both molecular biology/genomics and the application of such in Pharma and Applied Markets is required• Proven team player with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Comfortable working in an overlay/specialist function. • Skilled presenter.• Strong professional and strategic sales skills with proven ability to develop and grow key accounts through networking at all levels within the customer organization. • A driver, with excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.• Strong desire to win business and establish long term customer relationships and loyalty.• Highly motivated and successful individual who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment. • Detail and service oriented individual. • Ability to build compelling business cases and drive objectives within the organization.
