Marine and Environmental Chemistry:
The Marine Sciences Laboratory at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory conducts basic research in marine and environmental sciences. A major focus of our research is on the behavior and fate of potentially toxic and hazardous compounds in marine systems. We are one of the few laboratories in the world recognized for our unique analytical and research capabilities for environmental mercury research.
The marine and environmental chemistry group also provides specialized analytical and field services to public, private, and government clients. We specialize in low- level determinations and chemical speciation of trace elements and metalloids in water, sediments, and tissues. Job Description:
The purpose of this job position is to provide Quality Assurance services and consultation to the Marine Sciences Laboratory in beautiful Sequim, WA. Essentially, this individual is the MSL resident Quality subject matter expert. MSL researchers help clients understand the effects of pollutants on marine and freshwater organisms; measure trace substances in the marine environment and develop tests to determine safe levels of the substances; assess and restore marine and coastal habitats; and use satellite information and other remote sensing techniques to map, measure, and model what happens in the ocean and estuarine environments.
Minimum Requirements:
This position requires a BS degree in chemistry or related field with a minimum of six years or an advanced degree and three to five years of experience in applying quality and safety principles to applied research and development activities. The position requires a working knowledge of quality and safety concepts, terminology, and methodologies; familiarity with quality and safety processes, tools and techniques.
