Publishing Support Specialist
This is a non-supervisory position responsible for providing assistance by ensuring that historical and file-related data necessary to produce documentation for Standards publications are correct and in-place. The position provides quality assurance support and composition support, as well as performs various editorial and proofreading functions for USP’s publications. The position converts data to various formats and validates data files.
Job Duties:<
Converts documents into various formats, such as excel and xml, as necessary for editing and publishing. Creates, reviews, and validates tagging in xml files for publications. Researches files to ensure correct version of file is used in publications. Formats existing graphic files. Creates and revises graphics by scanning or drawing using graphics editing software or coordinating with outside companies to create and revise graphics. Validates XML coding after pagination of each publication. Proofreads print and online publications word-for-word. Proofreads print and online publications to ensure corrections have been made. Makes corrections to xml files based on standard proofreading markup. Creates index for publications. Copyedits for content, style, grammar, syntax and spelling. Understands and follows USP style guide. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in English or Journalism or at least three years of experience in a proofreading and/or editing environment. One year tagging experience with HTML, XML, or SGML. Must pass proofreading and Windows skills tests.

Excellent typing skills and experience with word processing, spreadsheet, database and document management system software, in a Windows environment. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication. Competent in Windows, SGML, XML, HTML or other meta-language structures. Must work independently, be a team player and work well in a tight, deadline-driven environment. Must possess an eye for detail, know how to mark up a document quickly and thoroughly for punctuation, grammar and style errors, and be proficient using standard proofreader's notation. Ability to manage multiple projects, take direction and produce defined results. Effective analytical abilities. Knowledge of graphics manipulation or creation software a plus.
