Product Director, Oncotype DX® Colon Cancer Assay
The Product Director is responsible for pre-launch activities, launch, and commercial marketing of the Oncotype DX Colon Cancer Assay including brand plan development and implementation. The Product Director will prepare for the launch of the colon cancer assay - an assay in stage II colon cancer to determine which patients will benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy - and introduce the product to the US and selected ex-US marketplaces (in coordination with the ex-US commercial team and commercial partners) as well as plan and launch product extensions. The ideal candidate will have strong analytic, managerial and communication skills and direct experience marketing and launching proprietary cancer products to medical oncologists and/or GI surgeons. The Product Director will collaborate closely with Sales Management, Market Strategy, Managed Care, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Communications, and the Chief Medical Officer. Success in this position will require attention to detail, broad strategic thinking, strong clinical knowledge, and the ability to carry out multiple tasks in parallel. Competitive candidates will possess significant, relevant experience in oncology marketing, with a demonstrated ability to master complex scientific material and demonstrated ability to work with US thought leaders and other physicians. Competitive candidates will have great facility with presentation skills as they will be presenting to diverse audiences, including the field sales force, executive team, and medical teams, as well as external audiences. Given the extensive contact the Marketing Department has with multiple internal and external parties, strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential. The Oncotype DX Product Director should enjoy working in an ever-changing office and market environment and be able to maintain composure and poise in sometimes-hectic situations. To support departmental activities he/she will convey verbal & written requests and other information to internal and external parties on a routine basis. RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: - Work closely with the Marketing team, Sales, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Managed Care, Corporate Communications and the Chief Medical Officer to achieve successful product launch and adoption of the Oncotype DX Colon Cancer Assay and related product extensions. - Develop comprehensive brand and launch plans for the Oncotype DX Colon Cancer Assay as well as product extensions, including positioning, key messages, promotional strategies and tactics, and medical education initiatives to ensure that messages are delivered to targeted customers optimally. - Develop promotional tools including brochures, slide kits, advertisements, and online content to convey messages and support awareness, education, and adoption of the Oncotype DX Colon Cancer Assay. - Analyze customer segments and develop tools and programs specific to these segments. - Develop national colon cancer thought-leader advocates & coordinate participation in advisory boards and speaker development programs. - Develop programs to empower patients to be involved in their treatment decisions and educate patients on the assay. - Work with the Corporate Communications & Advocacy team to develop consistent messages and education opportunities for Media and Patient audiences. - Master complex scientific information at a high level in order to analyze clinical studies by Genomic Health and other parties in the field of genomics and present this analysis to diverse audiences. - Present a variety of material in front of diverse audiences, from All Company Meetings to Field Sales Meetings, Executive Meetings, board meetings, and other relevant audiences. The ability to inform and inspire is critical. - Prepare verbal & written requests and other information to internal and external parties on a routine basis. - Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to sensitive scientific data, HIPAA protected information, SEC-protected filings and other designated topics, at all times. - Genomic Health, while fast-growing, is still a small company where the marketing group covers a broad scope of responsibility with a small staff. An ability and willingness to multi-task and complete multiple projects across different areas is critical. QUALIFICATIONS - BA or BS required. Advanced degree strongly preferred (MS, MBA, PhD, MD, RN, PharmD) or equivalent experience - Minimum of five years experience in marketing or new product planning with a strong track record and accessible references. Field sales experience in oncology is a significant benefit. - Oncology experience required with strong preference for candidates who have worked directly with key opinion leaders in colon cancer in the USA and who have experience launching products into the US market. - Ex-US marketing or sales experience is desired, including working with ex-US partners on global product initiatives. - Relevant experience in a tightly-controlled, regulatory environment and with managed care. - Proven analytic skills with scientific papers and market intelligence. - Strategic thinker with potential for advancement as the Company grows. - Willingness to travel extensively in the USA and potentially ex-US, as needed. - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, simultaneous, complex tasks and to meet deadlines. - A positive mental attitude to daily tasks; a net contributor to overall morale. - Demonstrated communication skills, presentation skills, verbal, tact, composure and confidentiality in order to coordinate complex personnel issues, schedules, travel, and logistical projects & programs in and outside of GHI. - Strong communicator with ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, managers and customers as needed. - Able to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner - Able to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality - Ability to work as part of a team. - Computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, familiarity and use of Internet/World Wide Web, presentation development skills MS Office expertise must be at a very high level. - Writing skills: memos, letters, data analyses, with proper grammar and spelling.
