Process Development Engineer I (FY09-53)

Job Description:
Advance process understanding at Alkermes, Inc. in a high-tech Process Development Laboratory by designing and executing experiments to optimize the manufacturing processes for dry powder aerosols used in pulmonary drug delivery. Conduct studies to understand process scale-up issues, which include operation of an automated spray dryer system. Plan experiments, analyze data, write technical protocols and reports, and recommend subsequent experiments or methods. Work with suppliers/vendors to specify new materials and equipment as needed. Assist in the drafting of operating procedures, batch records and other design documentation. Maintain detailed lab notebook and the organization of large amounts of data. Troubleshoot equipment and instrumentation, implement system improvements.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
• BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Engineering.
• 0-5 years industrial experience.
• Some laboratory experience as co-op, summer intern, etc.

Knowledge/Skills Needed:
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at the same time.
• Proficient in technical writing.
• Strong understanding of fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
